Mohammed Shami’s India career is all set to get fresh wings following his consistent and impressive performances for Bengal in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2025-26. Mohammed Shami has already taken more than 20 wickets in three games in the premier tournament.
Despite the seasoned bowler’s heroics, he has been overlooked for India selections. But a ray of hope rises for Shami to revive his international career. He is set to play in India's premier domestic Twenty20 cricket championship to regain his place in India’s T20I squad.
Mohammed Shami set to play in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025
As reported by Revsportz, Mohammed Shami is all set to be picked in the Bengal squad for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to begin on November 26 and run until December 18. This tournament will give a golden opportunity to Shami to make India come back.

If Shami manages to continue his sublime form in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 for Bengal, it will put him back into the spotlight and could earn him a place in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at home and in Sri Lanka.
Notably, the Indian fast bowler was overlooked for the England and Australia tour and then for the recent Test series against the West Indies at home and now for the ongoing Test series against South Africa as well.
Mohammed Shami eyes India comeback after stellar Ranji Trophy 2025-26 form
Now, it remains to be seen whether Shami’s Ranji heroics could earn him an ODI spot back for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the Proteas side, starting on November 30.
Shami was last seen in action for the Men in Blue during their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph in the UAE earlier this year.
After his 2023 World Cup heroics, Shami had been troubled with injuries, which impacted his form, and he lost his place in the Indian side across the formats.
However, it is also being said that some of Shami's public statements about his fitness have not sat well with the BCCI and Indian selectors, leading to his continuous omission from the side.
The senior pacer was expected to travel to England, but his refusal to play for India A also impacted his chances.

Mohammed Shami in sizzling form ahead of SMAT 2025 opener
Meanwhile, a total of 30 teams will be taking part in India’s premier T20 tournament and divided into four groups. The format will follow a round-robin stage, followed by a knockout stage.
Bengal are placed in Elite Group C along with Punjab, Haryana, Baroda, Gujarat, Puducherry, and Services. Bengal will kick off its campaign against Baroda on November 26.
Well, Bengal all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed smashed his second first-class century, while Mohammed Shami returned with a fifer to help his team draw the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 clash against Assam on Wednesday, November 19. He scalped two wickets on the final day.
Assam managed 200 runs in their first innings, with Shami taking three wickets in Kalyani. And then the stunning performances from Shahbaz (101) and Sumanta Gupta (97) guided Bengal to a strong total of 442 all out.
Later, Denis Das and Sumit Ghadigaonkar’s brilliant fifties denied Bengal their fourth straight win in the tournament as the game ended in a draw.
