The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah provided a massive update about the return of Mohammed Shami. He revealed that the fast bowler's participation in the Australia series will be dependent on the fitness report by NCA.

India fast bowler Shami has been out of the action ever since the ICC World Cup 2023 concluded. However, with the Test season ahead, there are a lot of speculations about the comeback of the premier fast bowler, who has been putting in hard yards in NCA.

Shami, who underwent an operation on his right Achilles tendon in February, has been making great progress and is in the final stage of his recovery process. The fast bowler resumed bowling last month after the prolonged injury, and there were reports that his workload would be increased after he gets pain-free.

There have been various reports that he will be making a return during the Bangladesh Tests. India will be hosting Bangladesh in the two-match Test series and the three-match T20I series. The first Test will be played from 19th September in Chennai and the second game will take place from 27th September in Kanpur.

The fast bowler recently mentioned that he would be making a comeback through the Ranji Trophy for Bengal. After the Bangladesh series, India will be playing against New Zealand as well before traveling to Australia for the five-match Test series in November-December and January.

Jay Shah gives a massive update about Mohammed Shami's availability for the Australia series

Mohammed Shami would be keen to make a return to the team before the Australia tour so that he could gain the full rhythm. BCCI secretary Jay Shah was asked about the fast bowler's availability for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Replying to which he replied he said that it would depend on the fitness report.

"Shami playing the Australia series or not is a matter of his fitness and a decision will be taken after the NCA report," he told ANI.

Recently, India Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, ahead of the Sri Lanka tour, talked about the return of Mohammed Shami. He stated that they have targeted Bangladesh Tests for his comeback. He was even expected to feature in the Duleep Trophy but the pacer has not yet recovered properly and the selectors want to take a cautious approach.

Mohammed Shami will have a lot of time to prepare for the Australia series even if he doesn't play in the Bangladesh series. There are three games inclined against New Zealand. There is also the Ranji Trophy along with India A team's two first-class games in Australia from October 31.

Shami will be extremely crucial for India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India has won on their last two tours to Australia and would be hoping for a hat-trick of wins. Shami along with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj would be key for the team.
