Mohammed Shami was not selected for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between India and Australia, despite the fact that he seemed fit to play. On Friday, October 25, the BCCI announced the squad for the upcoming five-match Test series in Australia.

However, Mohammed Shami missed out on the Test squad for the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia, starting with the first Test in Perth on November 22, and it seems that there is not everything good between the senior pacer and the BCCI.

Mohammed Shami's omission from Australia tour sparks speculation amid viral training video

Notably, Mohammed Shami has been working to recover from ankle surgery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after undergoing surgery earlier this year. The Indian pacer has been out of action since the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia in November last year.

It is being said that Shami’s rehabilitation is going well, but his recent knee swelling has cast doubt on his availability for the high-profile Test series, and that’s why he was not picked for the Australia tour. However, the viral video has been telling a different story.

Actually, an hour before the announcement of the Test Quad for the Australia tour, Mohammed Shami was seen honing his skills in a recent practice. Sharing his journey back to peak form, the senior Indian pacer posted a montage on Instagram, showcasing his rigorous training to make a strong comeback.

Mohammed Shami's 'Skill and Heart' post goes viral

In the video, Shami can be seen bowling at full pace, and it seems that he is ready to return to action. Despite this, he was not picked for the Australia tour, raising many eyebrows with the speculations rife whether everything is good between the pacer and the BCCI, and the selectors.

Shami posted a powerful message along with the video on Instagram, and it says, “Speed is just the beginning. It's the skill and heart behind every delivery that truly set the pace.

Here's how Mohammed Shami shows the pace is just the beginning of his comeback:

Meanwhile, India's pace attack will be led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. Apart from Bumrah and Siraj, Akash Deep also retained his place after impressive performances against England and Bangladesh, while Prasidh Krishna also made a comeback following rehabilitation for a stress fracture.

On the other hand, the uncapped young gun Harshit and pace all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy have also earned their maiden call-ups to the Test team for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Reddy recently made an impressive T20I debut for India against Bangladesh. Notably, Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, and Khaleel Ahmed have been named as reserve players for the Australia tour.

Here’s the India squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia:

Rohit Sharma (C), Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Washington Sundar, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy.
