Team India pace bowler Mohammed Siraj has broken his silence on being dropped from the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer admitted it was not able to digest the snub after winning his second consecutive Player of the Match award in the ongoing IPL 2025 season.

Mohammed Siraj was overlooked by the selectors despite Jasprit Bumrah being ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to injury. India went with Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana. It is worth noting that the Rohit Sharma-led team went unbeaten and lifted the Champions Trophy title.

Mohammed Siraj Clinches Consecutive Player of the Match Awards in IPL 2025

Mohammed Siraj bowled a fiery spell for the Gujarat Titans against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday, April 6. He dismantled the Hyderabad batting lineup with figures of 4 for 17—his best in IPL history.

The 31-year-old speedster, who had earlier picked up three wickets against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), was named Player of the Match for the second game in a row. He credited the presence of his family at his home ground for boosting his confidence.

Siraj was acquired by Gujarat Titans for ₹12.25 crore at the IPL 2025 auction and has justified his price tag with back-to-back match-winning spells. He is the second-leading wicket-taker in the tournament, with nine wickets in four matches at an average of 13.78 and an economy rate of 7.75.

I Was Not Able to Digest It - Mohammed Siraj

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Mohammed Siraj said that he couldn't digest missing the Champions Trophy squad. The Gujarat Titans pacer said that he focused on improving his fitness and mindset after the disappointment.

“When you come to your home ground, it is a special feeling. My family was there in the crowd, and that lifted me,” Siraj said (Via Hindustan Times).

“I have played for seven years for RCB. I have worked hard on my bowling and also on my mindset, it is working well for me. At one time, I was not able to digest it (having not been picked for the Champions Trophy), but I kept my spirits up and worked on my fitness and game,” he added.

I Am Enjoying My Bowling - Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj said that he corrected his past mistakes and is now enjoying his bowling rhythm. He also stated that not being selected made him question his performance.

"Whatever mistakes I was making, I worked on those, and I am enjoying my bowling,” Siraj added.

“As a professional, when you are consistently with the Indian team, a doubt grows in your mind (on him being dropped), but I cheered myself up and was looking forward to the IPL," he continued.

"When you’re not selected (for the Indian team), it does cross your mind (if you are good enough). But I wanted to be ready for IPL. When you execute what you are trying to deliver, you stay at the top. When you move the ball both in and out and it works instinctively, it gives you a different feeling.”

Gujarat Titans chased down the 153-run target in just 16.4 overs, securing a seven-wicket win. Captain Shubman Gill anchored the innings and guided his team home with an unbeaten 61 runs.
