"Shubman and I have been together for a long time. We have played India A. We have spent time off the field as well. We made our Test debuts together at the MCG, and also became ODI No. 1 (ICC rankings) at the same time. We have a lot of memories together," Siraj told RevSportz.

"He’s also the captain of the Gujarat Titans. We bat at the nets together and keep talking. I keep telling him that you’re my bunny. Our understanding is very easy, and it reflects on the field. He understands what I want, what I don’t, and vice versa," he added.

Shubman Gill is the Vice-Captain for the Asia Cup - Mohammed Siraj

In the same conversation, Mohammed Siraj also expressed his admiration for Shubman Gill’s growth as a leader. He shared his best wishes to Gill, who has been appointed vice-captain under Suryakumar Yadav for the 2025 Asia Cup. Siraj hoped that the team could secure the trophy in the tournament.

"I am really proud of his growth as a captain, and now that he is the vice-captain for the Asia Cup as well, I would definitely want him to bring the trophy back. All the best to him and the team," Siraj said.

Mohammed Siraj has not been included in India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. The eight-team tournament will start on September 9 in the UAE. India have been placed in Group A with the UAE, Pakistan, and Oman.

When Did Mohammed Siraj Last Feature in a T20I for India?

Mohammed Siraj last played a T20I for India during the 2-0 series win in Sri Lanka in July 2024, where he picked up just one wicket across three matches. He was also part of India’s T20 World Cup campaign but was replaced by an additional spinner in the XI after taking only a single wicket in three games.

Siraj has been absent from India’s recent T20I fixtures, missing series against Bangladesh, South Africa, and England. Earlier in 2025, he was also left out of the Champions Trophy squad.

The Hyderabad pacer has struggled to make an impact in the shortest format, with 14 wickets in 16 T20Is at an average of over 32 and an economy of 7.79. He claimed 16 wickets in 15 matches at an economy rate of over nine per over during the IPL 2025 season.
