Team India pacer Mohammed Siraj shared an emotional message with pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah during the fifth and final Test against England at the Kennington Oval in London. The fast bowler revealed that he had urged Bumrah not to leave the squad after being released as part of workload management.

Jasprit Bumrah was not included in India’s playing XI as part of the team’s workload management plan. The decision to rest the senior pacer for the final game came after he featured in the three matches. On Friday, August 1, the BCCI confirmed that Bumrah had officially been released from the squad.

“Jassi bhai ko ye bola tha, bhaiya aap ja kyu rahe ho? Mai 5 wicket leke aake kisko hug karu? Toh unhone bola mai hu idhar hi, tu bas 5 wicket lele. (I asked Jassi, brother, why are you going? Who’ll I come to hug when I take a five-wicket haul? He just said, ‘I am here, you go and take five wickets’)" Siraj revealed in a video on the BCCI.tv after the day’s play.

Siraj may have missed out on a five-wicket haul, but his impressive four-wicket performance was instrumental in restricting England to 247 in their first innings. He helped India keep the hosts to a modest 23-run lead.

Booms Has Been a Great, Great Part of This - Prasidh Krishna

In the same video, Prasidh Krishna, who replaced Jasprit Bumrah, said that mutual trust and support among the bowlers is crucial. He also spoke about his close bond with Mohammed Siraj, adding that they’ve played together for over five years, including in the IPL.

“Booms has been a great, great part of this. I think it’s really important for us to enjoy each other. When you are on the field, you are speaking to each other and have that trust. That trust is only going to make the team better," Prasidh said.

"I and Siraj, we have been playing a lot for five years now. I played with him a lot in the IPL as well. We sit together a lot, spend a lot of time together. Same with Akash Deep. I think the fast-bowling unit is looking pretty good," he added.

India Stage Comeback on Day 2 at The Oval Under Mohammed Siraj's Lead

India made a comeback on Day 2 of the fifth Test at The Oval. The visiting team was bowled out for 224 following Karun Nair's half-century (57). India found themselves under pressure as England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley added 92 runs in just under 13 overs.

However, the momentum shifted when Duckett was dismissed. From a strong 129/1, England suffered a dramatic collapse and were eventually bowled out for 247.

Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna took four wickets apiece. Prasidh removed Crawley, while Siraj demolished the middle order with key scalps of Ollie Pope, Joe Root, and Harry Brook.

With Jasprit Bumrah rested, Siraj stepped up as the senior bowler, guiding a young pace unit and spearheading India’s comeback in this crucial Test.
