The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection made changes to the squad ahead of the first round of the upcoming Duleep Trophy.

Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik have been ruled out of the upcoming match, while Ravindra Jadeja has been released from the Team B squad.

The Duleep Trophy 2024-25 will start on September 5, 2024. The matches will be played in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, and Bengaluru.

The centrally contracted players will participate in the first round of the tournament, except for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravichandran Ashwin.

The Duleep Trophy, which was previously played with six zonal teams, will feature only four teams this year. The second round of the tournament will overlap with the two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. Players selected for the Test matchs will be replaced in the Duleep Trophy.

Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik Ruled Out of First Round of Duleep Trophy

On Tuesday, August 27, the BCCI announced that Navdeep Saini will replace Mohammed Siraj in the 'India B' squad.

The statement added that Gaurav Yadav has been named as a replacement for Umran Malik in the 'India C' squad. The BCCI confirmed that Siraj and Malik are suffering from an illness.

Ravindra Jadeja has been released from the Duleep Trophy squad, but the board didn't mention a specific reason. Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik won't be fit for the first round of the upcoming tournament. Mohammed Siraj was scheduled to play for Team B under Abhimanyu Easwaran.

Umran Malik has recovered from dengue but is still not fit for competitive play. The Jammu & Kashmir bowler will be replaced by Madhya Pradesh pacer Gaurav Yadav in Team C, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad. No replacement has been announced for Ravindra Jadeja for the upcoming red-ball event.

"The Men’s Selection Committee announced a couple of replacements in the squads for the first round of the 2024-25 Duleep Trophy," the statement read.

"Pacer Navdeep Saini will replace Mohd. Siraj in the Team B squad while Gaurav Yadav will replace Umran Malik in the Team C squad. Both Siraj and Malik are suffering from an illness and are not expected to be fit in time for their Duleep Trophy fixtures.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also been released from the Team B squad."

Young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy's participation in the Duleep Trophy will depend on his fitness, according to the BCCI statement. The first round of the tournament is scheduled to take place simultaneously in Anantapur and Bengaluru, starting on Thursday, September 5.
