Mohammed Siraj‘s rise as a fast bowler is nothing less than inspirational. The right-arm pacer had to overcome numerous hurdles before making it big in the game. Son of an auto rickshaw driver, Mohammed Siraj had to fight poverty as well but the adversities never really managed to pin him down.
After shining in domestic cricket, he made his India debut in T20Is in 2017. However, he did not really manage to make a big impression in international cricket and was written off by many.
The harsh criticism, however, did not affect him much as he kept working hard and finally managed to turn things around when India toured Australia in the 2020/21 season. He finished the series as the third-highest wicket-taker, taking 13 wickets in three games as India registered a famous series win. Mohammed Siraj has not looked back since then.
Fast forward to 2024 and he is now an indispensable part of the Indian team across formats. Last year, he starred with the ball in India’s Asia Cup triumph, taking 6 for just 21 runs as the Men in Blue bowled out Sri Lanka for just 50 runs in the final. Mohammed Siraj impressed in the World Cup as well, taking 14 wickets. Last year, he also became the number-one bowler in the ICC ODI rankings.
Mohammed Siraj celebrates his 30th birthday:
On Wednesday (March 13), Mohammed Siraj turned 30 and the BCCI celebrated it by posting a video on social media. In the video, the India star gave a tour of Hyderabad to his fans and also shared some fond memories of the place. At the beginning of the video, Mohammed Siraj made an interesting remark, saying that in 2019-20, he wanted to give himself just one more year in cricket to try and turn things around.
