Mohit Sharma announces retirement from cricket

On Wednesday, December 3, the 37-year-old India National Cricket Team fast bowler Mohit Sharma officially announced his retirement from all formats of cricket.

Mohit Sharma took to his official Instagram handle to share an emotional retirement post where he thanked all the people who supported him in his journey over the years.

Today with a full heart, I announce my retirement from all formats of cricket - Mohit Sharma

The Haryana pacer Mohit Sharma was a smart operator with the ball, and he burst into the scene in the 2011-12 Ranji Trophy season.

His success in domestic cricket helped him get an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and from there, his career took flight as he soon got his India cap.

The right-arm pacer made his debut in ODI cricket on August 1, 2013, against the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team in Bulawayo, and his T20I debut came on March 30, 2014, against the Australia National Cricket Team.

Overall, he played 26 ODIs in his career, including a stint in the World Cup, and bagged 31 wickets at an average of 32.90 and an economy of 5.45. He also played 8 T20Is and bagged 6 wickets at an average of 30.83 and an economy of 8.04.

Meanwhile, in his Instagram post, the veteran pacer, who was recently seen in action for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, stated:

"Today with a full heart, I announce my retirement from all formats of cricket. From representing Haryana to wearing the India jersey and playing in the IPL, this journey has been nothing short of a blessing."

Mohit Sharma further thanked Haryana Cricket Association, his mentor Anirudh Sir, and his wife for providing him with adequate support through thick and thin. He stated:

"A very special Thanku to the Haryana Cricket Association for being the backbone of my career. And my deepest gratitude to Anirudh Sir, who's constant guidance and belief in me shaped my path in ways words cannot express.

"Thanku to the Bcci, my coaches, my teammates, ipl franchises, support stuff and all my friends for their love and support.

"Special thanks to my wife who always handled my mood swings and anger, and supported me through everything. I look forward to serving the game in fresh ways. Thanku so much. Innings over gratitude forever less."

Wishing you a wonderful retirement, brother - Manvinder Bisla

After Mohit Sharma made his retirement announcement, several former and current cricketers, including Manvinder Bisla and Mandeep Singh, wished him luck for the future.

"Wishing you a wonderful retirement, brother. It was a privilege sharing the field with you. You played the game with heart, passion and dignity - the way it should be played. Enjoy the next innings of life."

"Congrats on a wonderful career veere, wish you the best for the future ahead," Mandeep Singh commented under the post.

"Congratulations on a wonderful career," Gujarat Titans (GT) finisher Rahul Tewatia commented under the post.

"Legend, you have left an incredible mark! You have inspired so many people. Wishing you a retirement as legendary as your journey and you," Shivam Singh commented.

"Pta NHI AJEEB ZAG RHA H AUR ACHA BHI NHI Lag Rhah. Thank You For inspiring enerations THE COMEBACK KING. HAPPY RETIREMENT BHAIYA @MOHITSHARMA18," cricketer Shivam Singh wrote on his Instagram story.
