Another humiliating moment for Mohsin Naqvi and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) amid the ongoing season of the 2026 World Championship of Legends (WCL) tournament. Like the other top cricket-playing nations, a team of former star cricketers is also included in the tournament to represent Pakistan and is named Pakistan Champions.

But the team's participation in the tournament was uncertain as the Pakistan Cricket Board set some demands in front of the tournament organisers. The organisers, however, have reportedly turned the PCB's request down.

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi faced humiliation in WCL

After the beginning of the tournament, there were doubts over the Pakistan Champions team as the board was not ready to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the team. Without the approval from the national cricket governing body, the team was not allowed to play a single match.

Meanwhile, ahead of Pakistan Champions' scheduled match against the Australia Champions at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Abhishek Tripathi, a Dainik Jagran reporter, made some massive claims through his 'X' post today, on October 5.

According to his claims, the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB had put multiple conditions on the WCL organisers, mostly due to their recent rivalry with the India National Cricket Team. Since Operation Sindoor, both the men's and women's Indian national cricket teams have stopped shaking hands with their arch rivals during the matches.

During the previous edition of the tournament, the former Indian cricketers who were part of the Indian champion team took a step further and boycotted their match against Pakistan. The decision to boycott was in response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which took 26 civilians' lives. After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian government launched their military operation, named Operation Sindoor.

PCB made multiple demands to the WCL organisers

According to Tripathi's social media post, the PCB, in its written apology, wanted to make the handshake mandatory in the matches and had an intention to force the Indian players to make an apology for not taking the field in the previous season.

"The Pakistan Cricket Board had put a condition before the WCL organizers that Indian players should issue a written apology for not taking the field last year and there should also be a handshake, but the WCL management only accepted the commercial conditions and rejected the conditions of demanding an apology and shaking hands. After this, the PCB has agreed to give NOC to the Pakistan Champions team with some conditions," the social media post reads.

No Pakistan Champions in 2026 World Championship of Legends

Amid these updates, the World Championship of Legends, from its official Instagram account, has announced that the tournament will run with six teams, as the Pakistan Champions team will not take part in the competition because of unforeseen circumstances.

India Champions, Australia Champions, South Africa Champions, England Champions, Bangladesh Champions, and the West Indies Champions are the remaining six teams in the third season of the tournament.
