Mohsin Naqvi, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is expected to take up a new role with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Mohsin Naqvi is likely to become the next president of the Asian Cricket Council, replacing current president Jay Shah, according to the latest news reports in Pakistani media.

Mohsin Naqvi was appointed as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board earlier this year. Naqvi was named as an unopposed candidate for a three-year term as PCB chief. During his tenure, the Pakistan cricket team struggled with performances, including a group-stage exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

The Pakistan Cricket Board chairmen have struggled to complete their full terms since Ehsan Mani's exit in 2021. Former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja served for just 15 months, while Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf each lasted under a year. Mohsin Naqvi also holds the position of Pakistan's Interior Minister.

Mohsin Naqvi Set To Succeed Jay Shah - Report

According to the latest reports in Pakistan, Mohsin Naqvi will start his two-year term as ACC President in January 2025. The Pakistan cricket team aims to enhance Pakistan's influence in regional cricket administration.

The report further added that the Asian Cricket Council is expected to officially announce Mohsin Naqvi as its new president during its upcoming meeting in October-November.

The ACC president is appointed through a rotation system among its member countries. Jay Shah, who is currently serving as president and secretary of the Indian board, received a one-year extension in January. Mohsin Naqvi is expected to take over as ACC president after Shah's term ends in January 2025.

Bangladesh Cricket Board's Nazmul Hassan served as the ACC president until January 2021, when Jay Shah succeeded him. The Asian Cricket Council successfully hosted the 2022 T20 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the 2023 ODI Asia Cup in Pakistan and Sri Lanka under Jay Shah's tenure.

Pakistan suffered Group Stage Exit In T20 World Cup 2024

Pakistan was eliminated in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States. The Babar Azam-led team lost to the associate team USA in their first match. They lost to arch-rivals India in their second game, which dented their chances of advancing to the Super 8 stage.

In June 2024, Mohsin Naqvi called for "major surgery" within the Pakistan national cricket team. The PCB chairman dismissed former players Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the selection committee. Naqvi appointed a seven-member committee after the team’s recent poor performance.

Pakistan players will be next seen in action during the two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. The series is part of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. The first match is scheduled to be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, starting on August 21.
