India and New Zealand will be playing the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 final at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Widely known as ICC Chairman Jay Shah's hometown, the historic clash will witness the chairmen of many cricket boards associated with the tournament. However, Mohsin Naqvi, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, has given no such hint.
India have qualified for the finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 and will clash against New Zealand. New Zealand made an unexpected entry into the finals after a crushing victory against South Africa. India, on the other hand, played one of the highest-scoring semi-finals in the history of T20 World Cups to make their way through to the final.
With the final scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and New Zealand playing the finals, it is learnt through Cricbuzz that NZC Chairman Roger Twose will be at the venue on Sunday Night. Two other board chairmen, Tavengwa Mukuhlani of Zimbabwe Cricket and Dr. Mohammed Moosajee of Cricket South Africa, are also likely to be present.
ICC to welcome Mohsin Naqvi for ICC T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad?
Though people from across the globe and the chairmen of several Cricket Boards might be seen at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, the PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi's absence is something that is making the headlines.
The relation between the two boards, PCB and the BCCI have always been a concern to the ICC and with Mohsin Naqvi's occasional antics, the relations have been further strained in recent times. Some of which include taking away India's Asia Cup Trophy and then not handing it over, or backing the Bangladesh Cricket Board on their demand to switch venues from India to Sri Lanka.
As of now, there is no immediate information regarding the presence of BCB President Aminul Islam, since he is currently in Melbourne. However, it is affirmed that Mohsin Naqvi will not be present.
ICC postpones meeting over war crisis in the Middle East
ICC had its meeting scheduled for March 25-27 in Doha, the capital city of Qatar. The decision to stage the meetings in Doha was an initiative to enhance ICC's growing association with cricket in Qatar and the country's wider sporting ecosystem.
The meeting has, however, been postponed in view of the ongoing war in the Middle East. A formal confirmation was sent to the members on Saturday, as reported by Cricbuzz. As per reports, the ICC is exploring new venues in Asia, as the meeting is expected to be reconvened sometime in April, though the date has not been announced yet.
The meeting was to bring together ICC Board Directors, Chief Executives, Committee Members, and senior leadership "as part of the organization's ongoing governance calendar, providing an important opportunity to deliberate over key matters pertaining to the present and future of the global game."
India are on the verge of scripting history in the T20 World Cup
Team India are truly on the verge of scripting T20 World Cup history. By qualifying for the finals of the T20 World Cup, they became the first team to have done that as the defending champions of the title.
Formerly, Pakistan and Sri Lanka played consecutive finals in 2007 and 2009 and 2012 and 2014, respectively. However, neither of them were defending champions but rather won the title for the first time in 2009 (Pakistan) and 2014 (Sri Lanka).
The Suryakumar Yadav-led India side will have the chance to become the first team to win consecutive titles in the T20 World Cup, win it on their home soil for the first time for any team, and continue their legacy in the shortest format of international cricket.
