Former India batter Manoj Tiwary has made a shocking claim on the legendary captain MS Dhoni for not giving him enough opportunities. Tiwary believes his opportunities didn't come on a consistent basis which hampered his growth in international cricket.

The 39-year-old even mentioned that players like Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, and Rohit Sharma were not getting runs but were not dropped. However, he was left out despite scoring enough runs during that period.

Manoj Tiwary accuses MS Dhoni

During an interview on Lallantop, Manoj Tiwary spoke about the time when he was dropped from the Indian team despite getting runs. He remembers that MS Dhoni was the captain of the team and he didn't drop Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, and Rohit Sharma despite these players not having many runs under the belt.

"He (MS Dhoni) was the captain. The players who were in the team then were Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma. After that the Tour which took place, they were not making runs. And here I was, even after making a century and winning Player of the Match, could not find a place in playing XI," Tiwary observed.

Tiwary further mentioned that he was dropped for 14 matches and didn't get enough match practice during this period. He even wanted to take the retirement but was unable to do it because of family responsibilities.

"I was dropped for 14 matches, which took place in a space of six months. At that time the dropped player did not get enough practice. I wanted to retire but due to family responsibility, could not," he added.

"Team India runs according to skipper" - Manoj Tiwary

Further speaking on the interview, Manoj Tiwary revealed the role of a captain in the Indian team. He believes the captain has the utmost power in the Indian team and even cited a few prime examples where the captains have had their say.

"Team India runs according to the planning of the skipper. In state teams, things are different but in Team India its all about the captain," Tiwary noted.

"If you see, during Kapil Dev's time it was he who ran the show, during Sunil Gavaskar's tenure it was his call, same was during Mohammad Azharuddin's tenure. After that Dada (Sourav Ganguly) and so on. This will go on unless a strict administrator comes and makes a set rule," he added.

Manoj Tiwary's international career

Manoj Tiwary made his ODI debut in 2008 in Brisbane. However, he had to wait for three more years to play his next match which was after India's World Cup win in 2011 against West Indies in Antigua.

After a few low scores in the format, he finally came into his own in December 2011 against West Indies at Chennai as he smashed a brilliant 104* in a Player of the Match-winning performance. It was his first international hundred and it seemed like he has solidified his place in the team.

However, he was dropped for the CB series in Australia and the Asia Cup. In both series, the Men in Blue produced underwhelming performances and couldn't make it to the final.

Manoj Tiwary played his last ODI in 2015 against Zimbabwe where he scored 10 runs. Overall, he played 12 ODIs and scored 287 runs at an average of 26.09 and a strike rate of 71.21. He also played three T20Is in which he aggregated just 15 runs.
