Former Team India skipper MS Dhoni recently shared insights about his relationship with modern-day legendary batter Virat Kohli both on and off the field. MS Dhoni stated that he enjoyed batting with Virat Kohli for the Indian cricket team, especially during the middle overs, adding that it was a lot of fun.

MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are considered among the greatest cricketers for India in this generation. Kohli made his international debut in an ODI match under the leadership of MS Dhoni against Sri Lanka in 2008. The batting duo played together for the Indian national cricket team for over a decade.

Kohli served as vice-captain to Dhoni for the Indian team. The Delhi-born cricketer took over as captain of the Indian team across all three formats. Dhoni played under Kohli’s captaincy during the latter stages of his career. The wicketkeeper-batter last played for India in the ODI World Cup 2019 semi-final match.

We Make Sure That We Go On The Side - MS Dhoni

In a recent event, MS Dhoni described his relationship with Virat Kohli as enjoyable. Dhoni highlighted that they don’t meet frequently but added that they make time to catch up and chat when possible.

"We have been colleagues who played for India for a very long time. He (Kohli) has been amongst the best when it comes to world cricket. And the fact that I could bat a lot with him during the middle overs was a lot of fun because we used to take a lot of twos and threes in the game, so it has always been fun. It's not like we meet very often, but whenever we get a chance, we make sure that we go on the side and chat for some time, we'll talk about what is going on, so that is our relationship," Dhoni said.

Virat Kohli is third in all-time ODI run-scorers with 13,848 runs in 292 matches at an average of 58.68, including 50 centuries. MS Dhoni has scored 10,773 ODI runs at an average of 50.58. Kohli played a crucial role in Team India's victories in the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy under Dhoni.

MS Dhoni Retired From International Cricket On August 15, 2020

MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli last played together for India during the 2019 ODI World Cup in England. Kohli captained the team, with Dhoni as the wicketkeeper. India topped the league stage in the tournament but lost to New Zealand by 18 runs in the semi-final at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on July 9.

Dhoni retired from all formats in international cricket a year later. Dhoni and Kohli have faced each other in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since then. Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kohli's Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have engaged in competitive matches in the cash-rich league.
