Chennai Super Kings have been in grave trouble, and their campaign could meet a positive turn with the return of the veteran cricketer, the 44-year-old former Indian captain MS Dhoni.

The Chennai Super Kings might not have their best player in the form of MS Dhoni; however, he brings along immense experience and a lot more confidence for the CSK side. They have been eagerly awaiting the star's return to the competition.

Chennai Super Kings started IPL 2026 with three consecutive defeats. The CSK batters have done considerably well; however, despite having a fine pack of bowlers, they have not been directed in the best possible way, with Dhoni missing from behind the stumps.

MS Dhoni's return date confirmed in IPL 2026

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has aged over the years; however, that has never led to a dip in his efficiency in the format, as it has only added to his experience. In Dhoni's absence, CSK has felt the void, as they have won five titles under his captaincy.

MS Dhoni missed the first three matches of the IPL 2026 season for CSK due to an injury that has kept him on the sidelines. Dhoni has been trying hard to return early into the competition, as he has been toiling hard in the nets.

As per Rohit Juglan's report, the veteran CSK star is likely to make a comeback for the Chennai Super Kings in their upcoming match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. That would be the 6th game for CSK in this edition of the competition. According to this report, he is likely to be ruled out of the next two games against DC and KKR.

Will Dewald Brevis return for the CSK vs DC match?

CSK have also been missing another star cricketer in the form of South African superstar Dewald Brevis, the batter who was seen in some promising touch in the SA20 and the ICC T20 World Cup as well.

Dewald Brevis has been in solid touch and will be adding immense depth and firepower to the middle order. Brevis had declared that he would return for CSK on the 11th of April, and that is during CSK's fourth match of the season against Delhi Capitals.

Only time would tell if this is going to be witnessed at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Super Kings might also be making some changes to their XI, with Urvil Patel the most likely player to replace Sanju Samson, who has failed to perform this season.

Will IPL 2026 be the last season for MS Dhoni?

MSD has been part of the Chennai Super Kings since the inaugural season between 2008 and 2015, before returning for the franchise in 2018. Since then, he has been part of the franchise and has gone on to win three more trophies in 2018, 2021, and 2023.

For two reasons, he had played for the Rising Pune Supergiants when CSK were banned from the IPL. Dhoni has also been handed the credit for all of CSK's wins, as Stephen Fleming has been deemed useless in MSD's absence.

However, the veteran is getting older, and alongside that, injuries have started to mount on him; hence, he might be forced to retire this time around.
