The cricketing world was once again left mesmerized as Virat Kohli delivered a match-winning performance for the India National Cricket Team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal against Australia at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on March 4.
As India found itself in trouble at 43/2 while chasing 265 on a tricky surface in Dubai, Virat Kohli stood tall and played a remarkable knock of 84 off 98 balls, as well as being involved in three crucial partnerships with the middle order to power the Men in Blue to a four-wicket victory over Australia.
Kapil Dev declares Virat Kohli the 'greatest among greats'
Virat Kohli’s match-winning efforts earned him the Player of the Match award, as well as made him India's leading run-scorer in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where India will now face New Zealand in the title clash on March 9 at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai.
While tributes poured in from all corners for Virat Kohli, the biggest praise came from the legend Kapil Dev, who hailed the former Indian skipper’s ability to handle high-stakes situations magically. The 1983 World Cup-winning captain hailed the 36-year-old’s consistency and hunger for success.
The legendary all-rounder hailed Kohli as one of the greatest ODI chasers of all time and even ranked the dashing right-hander above MS Dhoni, India’s most successful captain in the ICC tournaments and one of the all-time greatest wicketkeepers.
Virat Kohli has the temperament to take up a bigger challenge: Kapil Dev
Kapil Dev was quoted as saying by India Today, “I think he has the temperament to take up a bigger challenge, and that is where he gets the energy. He likes to play like that, and very few cricketers have that temperament. But at the end of the day, he has the talent and the class on how to win matches. We know Dhoni used to do that, but Kohli is one step ahead of anybody else.”
Meanwhile, the Men in Blue have looked unstoppable in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and even they thrashed the Black Caps in the group stage, but the final brings a whole new level of pressure. Hence, Kapil Dev warned India against underestimating New Zealand.

The legendary cricketer believes that Rohit Sharma and his team hold the edge, given their form and firepower, but they must respect the Kiwis in the final. He signed off by saying, “India has more chances, but never rule out any other team in the Champions Trophy.”
Recently, the ICC also hailed Kohli as India’s diamond and called him a “Sarpanch” of big and high-pressure matches. Now, he would love to continue his sublime form in the CT 2025 Final to help the Men in Blue clinch their second ICC title within a year, having won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in June last year in the USA and Caribbean.
