MS Dhoni dragged as Yograj Singh shares roadmap as India coach: 'Will make Rohit Sharma run 20km'

Former cricketer Yograj Singh, father of Yuvraj Singh, revealed what decisions he would make regarding Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli if given the role of head coach. Yograj Singh criticized the tendency to call for the axing of senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma instead of supporting them through rough patches.
The Indian cricket team has faced criticism following a disappointing run in Test cricket. They suffered a 0-3 series defeat at home against New Zealand and then lost the series in Australia. Team India failed to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India will next face England in a five-match Test series.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli Are Going Through a Rough Patch - Yograj Singh
During a podcast hosted by former Punjab batter Taruwar Kohli, Yograj Singh was asked what changes he would make if appointed head coach of the Indian team. Yograj said that it is important to back senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
"If you make me the coach of the Indian team, I will use these same players to transform it into a side that will be unbeatable for ages," Yograj Singh said.
"Who will bring out their capabilities? Because people are always ready to throw them out of the team—drop Rohit Sharma or drop Kohli—but why? They are going through a rough patch and I want to tell my kids that I am with you," he added.
I have never differentiated between Yuvraj and the others, not even Dhoni - Yograj Singh
The former cricketer expressed confidence that the same squad could be transformed into an unbeatable team under his guidance. He further added that Kohli and Rohit could regain form through domestic cricket and rigorous training.
"I'll tell them let's play Ranji Trophy, or I will make Rohit run 20 km. Nobody does that. These players are diamonds. You don't throw them out. I will be like their father. I have never differentiated between Yuvraj and the others, not even Dhoni. But what is wrong is wrong," he added.
Indian Test Players Could Feature in India A Squad for England Tour
India continued their dominance in white-ball formats under Rohit Sharma's leadership. The 37-year-old batter guided the team to eight consecutive ODI wins, including a commanding 3-0 series victory over England at home.
India remained unbeaten throughout the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai to claim their second consecutive ICC title. However, their red-ball form remains a concern. Their next major challenge is the England tour, where they have not won a Test series since 2007.
As per a PTI report, some key Indian Test players might be included in the India A squad for two four-day matches against the England Lions. These games will serve as preparation for the five-match Test series.
The series is scheduled to begin on May 30, just days after the IPL 2025 final. Notably, the selection for these matches will depend on player availability before the IPL playoffs, as all main players are currently engaged with their respective franchises.
