Will MS Dhoni retire after the IPL 2026 season? As in previous years, the chatter around the former skipper's retirement from the Indian Premier League remains the same. Ahead of the 2026 IPL campaign, Dhoni provides a hint on the much-discussed topic.

Ahead of IPL 2026, Dhoni was presented at an event at Chepauk to interact with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans. The former skipper was welcomed by the crowd with loud cheers, and the moment he hinted at his possible retirement, the crowd went instantly wild.

MS Dhoni provides a hint at his retirement

Famous South Indian actor Sivakarthikeyan was on the stage to conduct the show. The moment when Dhoni stepped onto the stage, Sivakarthikeyan turned the spotlight onto the cornerstone of CSK. Like before, only to see the ‘captain cool’ from the front, crowds were gathered at the event, which was another example of why the franchise needs Mahendra Singh Dhoni in their jersey.

Footage from the event is doing the rounds on social media platforms, as the clip provides Dhoni’s reply on his possible retirement. It was the presenter who raised the topic by saying, “We expect the same answer every year, sir. You can play till you turn 60.”

With a nice smile on his face, the former captain, who is now 44, classically tackled the googly. In a vintage way, MS Dhoni did not reply in a straight way, but took over the moment from where the presenter handed him the charge to carry on the discussion.

MS Dhoni to play till the age of 60?

As Sivakarthikeyan said, “Sir, you can play till you turn 60.” Dhoni replied that it is very hard to play till that age, but he will try. That “I will try” moment was welcomed hugely by the crowd.

“It is very difficult. It is on the way down, not on the way up. But I will try,” Dhoni said.

Before the beginning of the tournament, speculations have been running around all corners regarding the possible playing combination of the Chennai Super Kings. After the setbacks in the previous season, the 5-time league-winners have made some adjustments to their squad. Officials invested heavily in Sanju Samson, another fan favorite cricketer in the south region of the nation.

CSK's playing combination raised speculations ahead of IPL 2026

As Samson and Dhoni are both keeper-batters, fans are speculating who will be in charge behind the stumps. Dhoni’s batting role also raised speculations among the CSK fans. In the last couple of seasons, the batter, who mostly made his name batting at number 7, dragged himself down in the order to allow the emerging cricketers to showcase their skills in crucial moments.

Will MS Dhoni play as an impact player to support the batting line-up? Speculations are going on. CSK will play their first match of the IPL 2026 on March 30 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati against Rajasthan Royals, the former team of Sanju Samson.
