India's first T20 World Cup-winning captain, MS Dhoni, has issued a strict warning to Team India, citing the dew factor, which can play a major role in the upcoming 20-over tournament. In Indian venues, dew can change things significantly.

India have won the World Cup only twice. The first time they had won the title was back during the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup, and then they won it after 17 years in the previous edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024.

Turning the pages of the history books, India's first T20 World Cup-winning skipper, MS Dhoni, has returned to comment on the current situation of the ICC T20 World Cup. India will be entering the 2026 edition as the defending champions of the title.

MS Dhoni cites a major hindrance in India's ICC T20 World Cup campaign

India will be hosting the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 alongside Sri Lanka. This will be their first chance to emerge as the team to win the ICC T20 World Cup at home, also the first-ever team to win the prestigious tournament for the third time and lastly, they can be cited as the only team to defend their title in the ICC T20 World Cup.

India undoubtedly are the favourites of this edition of the World Cup. Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has issued a massive warning to India ahead of their World Cup campaign. Considering Indian venues, Dhoni said dew could play a significant role.

Though being the heavyweights, dew may hinder the defending champions' chances of winning the title. He asserted that though India are a strengthened side, the dew factor is what worries them.

"It's one of the most dangerous teams. They'd have already started batting or bowling. But what all is needed in a good team? Everything. They have the experience, especially when it comes to this format. The experience is vast. They have played under pressure. Whoever is playing, whatever roles they are playing in the team, they have been in that situation for a considerable period of time. What worries me, again, I hate dew. Dew changes a lot of things," MS Dhoni said.

"The problem is when some of your players have a day off," Dhoni elaborated

The Men in Blue are currently the top-ranked team in the ICC T20I Rankings. Under Captain Suryakumar Yadav's leadership, India have lost just 7 matches out of the 43 games they have played in the shortest format of the game.

The former skipper also feels that even the best of players can have off days; however, if this happens during the knockout stages, then it can cost India big time, as they will be knocked out of the competition under such a situation.

"So, even when I was playing, something that really scares me was the dew, where toss becomes crucial and all of that. If we are playing ten matches with some of the best teams, we will come out as winners more often than not. If the condition is neutral and all of that. The problem is when some of your players have a day off and somebody from the opposition has a brilliant day and it can happen in T20 cricket," MS Dhoni elaborated.

"Nobody should get injured," MS Dhoni cites the biggest nightmare for India

MS Dhoni, other than the likely unfortunate happenings, has cited his biggest concern ahead of the T20 World Cup. He feels that no player should get injured in the World Cup.

"Whether it happens in the league stage or whether it happens in the knockout stage, that's where all the praying is needed. Nobody should get injured. Whatever roles are given, people should accomplish their roles for the team. If that's the case, I don't want to jinx it by saying it's one of the most dangerous teams," he added.

India are already bothered by the impending injuries of Washington Sundar and Tilak Varma, who is likely to make a comeback, as he was seen featuring in India A's game against the USA. India will be kicking off their campaign against the USA on the 7th of February.
