Legendary cricketer MS Dhoni has given no signs of stepping down despite Chennai Super Kings (CSK) facing challenges and widespread speculation about his retirement. According to a Times of India report, the IPL 2025 season will not be the end of MS Dhoni’s remarkable career in the cash-rich league.

The veteran wicketkeeper-batter has yet to comment on his future in cricket. Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, the franchise chose to retain Dhoni as an uncapped player. Dhoni had to lead Chennai Super Kings once again after regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered an injury midway through the IPL 2025.

MS Dhoni to Retire from Cricket After IPL 2025 Season?

Chennai Super Kings are confident that Dhoni will continue playing beyond the 2025 IPL season. The 43-year-old has indicated that he will decide on his future in a few months, but many within the camp believe he still has unfinished business with the team.

The report added that Dhoni wants to help address key gaps in the squad before stepping away. His presence is seen as crucial in stabilizing the side and guiding younger players.

However, Dhoni is unlikely to resume leadership duties. Ruturaj Gaikwad is expected to take over as captain after recovering from his elbow injury.

CSK end their IPL 2025 Campaign with Match Against Gujarat Titans on May 25

The T20 league, which was suspended for a week starting May 9, will resume on May 17 with a match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

A total of 17 matches will be played across six venues. The tournament is scheduled to conclude with the final on June 3, but the venue is yet to be decided.

Chennai Super Kings, who have won the IPL five times, have played all 14 league games so far. They end their IPL 2025 campaign playing their last match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 25 by beating them by 83 Runs.

The MS Dhoni-led team end their IPL 2025 journey at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table. After playing 14 matches, they have managed to win just four while losing 10 matches. They have only 8 points with a net run rate (NRR) of -0.647.
