Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif said that MS Dhoni would not hesitate to move on from Ravindra Jadeja if it benefits Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) long-term plans. Kaif added that Dhoni’s priority has always been the team’s success, and personal bonds would never affect his commitment to winning.

Trade discussions between the Rajasthan Royals and the Super Kings have reignited over Sanju Samson’s potential move. The two franchises are reportedly working to finalise the deal before November 15. Rajasthan could acquire Jadeja along with either Sam Curran or Matheesha Pathirana as part of the exchange.

Making the Team Win Is the Biggest Goal - Mohammad Kaif

Mohammad Kaif said that MS Dhoni is focused on restoring the Chennai Super Kings to their winning ways after finishing last in 2025. Kaif stated that success in cricket is built on team effort rather than individual brilliance.

“For Dhoni, making the team win is the biggest goal. If he is coming to play again, he will be thinking CSK finished 10th in the standings last year. He is a man of pride; hence, his biggest goal will be to make the team win another trophy. A team cannot win the trophy based on one player,” Kaif said on his YouTube channel.

MS Dhoni Will Sacrifice Ravindra Jadeja for the Team’s Good - Mohammad Kaif

The former cricketer said that MS Dhoni would not hesitate to part ways with Ravindra Jadeja if it benefits the Chennai Super Kings. Kaif stated that Dhoni’s decisions are driven by the goal of making CSK a champion again.

“If Jadeja has to be sacrificed for the team’s good, Dhoni will do it. People say how Dhoni operates based on friendships and does it, giving them a couple of extra chances. But it doesn’t mean his focus goes away from winning. The goal is to make CSK a champion. That’s why he will let go of Jadeja if it has to be done. If Dhoni feels he can get a better option for the team, he will take the decision,” remarked Kaif.

Jadeja has scored 3,260 runs at an average of 27.86, including five half-centuries. The left-arm spinner has picked up 170 wickets at an average of 30.52 and an economy rate of 7.67.

At the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Jadeja has taken 37 wickets in 55 matches at an average of 27.51. He has also scored 518 runs at a strike rate of nearly 120.

It Also Means That This is MS Dhoni’s Last Year - Mohammad Kaif

Mohammad Kaif also said that the upcoming IPL season might mark the end of MS Dhoni’s playing career, especially if Chennai Super Kings succeed in bringing Sanju Samson on board. He hinted that discussions between Samson and CSK could already be taking place behind the scenes.

“If Samson is likely to join CSK, there would be a lot of calls. Sanju must have called on the phone. Behind the scenes, there are a lot of phone calls. Sanju might have spoken to CSK, maybe Dhoni, ‘Bhai kya lagta hai.’ See, Dhoni runs the team, and if CSK wants Sanju this time, then he is also the future captain. It also means that this is Dhoni’s last year. Why would they want Sanju? Jadeja has been playing for them for a long time (since 2012).”

Sanju Samson has scored 4,700 runs in 176 matches at an average of 30.75 and a strike rate close to 140. However, there have been questions about his adaptability to home conditions.

The MA Chidambaram Stadium, known for its spin-friendly surface, hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for Samson. He has managed only 59 runs in five matches at an average of 11.80 and a strike rate of 100.
