In a recent development, former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas is the frontrunner to become the next president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Notably, BCCI administrators and decision-makers held an informal meeting on Saturday ahead of the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Former all-rounder and 1983 World Cup winner Roger Binny stepped down as BCCI president after turning 70. As per the Lodha Committee, officials above that age cannot hold the post. Rajeev Shukla, who is the BCCI vice president, has been appointed as the interim president following Binny’s resignation.

Mithun Manhas Front-Runner to Become BCCI President

The BCCI Annual General Meeting will be held on September 28 in Mumbai, where candidates for key positions on the board will be elected. According to a PTI report, Mithun Manhas and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president Raghuram Bhatt are in contention for the BCCI presidency.

Mithun Manhas, who has previously worked with the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), is regarded as the frontrunner to take charge as president.

However, the final decision will only be communicated to candidates on Sunday morning, just hours before the deadline for filing nominations expires.

"PTI has learnt that those who were in contention for the posts have been summoned for the meeting, with Manhas and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president Raghuram Bhatt among them," the report read.

Mithun Manhas Never Played for India; Achievements in Professional Cricket

Mithun Manhas made his professional debut in the 1997/98 season. Manhas never represented India at the international level. However, he led the Delhi team during the absence of national stars like Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir.

He played 157 first-class matches and scored 9,714 runs at an average above 45, including 27 centuries. The batter is the seventh leading run-getter in Ranji Trophy with 8,554 runs in 206 innings. He also played 130 List A matches, scoring 4,126 runs. He scored 1,170 runs in 91 T20 matches.

Manhas has played across seven seasons for Delhi Daredevils, now-defunct Pune Warriors, and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He served as North Zone convener for the Duleep Trophy and was part of the support staff for the Gujarat Titans.

Raghuram Bhatt Set to Become the BCCI Treasurer

The report further added that Raghuram Bhatt is set to become the BCCI treasurer, while Prabhtej Singh Bhatia of the Chhattisgarh Cricket Sangh is expected to take the joint secretary role. Devajit Saikia and Rajeev Shukla are likely to retain their positions as secretary and vice-president, respectively.

Arun Dhumal is likely set to continue as IPL chairman, but the board is seeking legal advice to determine whether he must observe a cooling-off period. He served as treasurer for three years before the role.

Elections are also planned for both the BCCI Apex Council and the IPL Governing Council. Jaydev Shah, son of former officer-bearer Niranjan Shah, is expected to join the Apex Council.
