Even some biopics, including Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni, have already become hits in Indian cinema, but Indian domestic cricket has not had such projects. MCA plans documentary on entire domestic season
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is planning a documentary on its entire upcoming domestic season. The Mumbai Cricket Association has even approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for permission.
If the BCCI approves MCA’s plan, fans could get a close look at what happens behind the scenes in Mumbai cricket. Patrick Graham is expected to direct the documentary. The Mumbai Cricket Association is also talking to major OTT platforms about the streaming rights.
The final format is still not decided. It could be a full-length documentary or a web series with several episodes. The plan is to cover Mumbai’s full domestic season. This will include the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
MCA wants to show Mumbai’s cricket culture
Mumbai Cricket Association president Ajinkya Naik has confirmed that the association has asked the BCCI for permission. The main aim is to show fans what happens behind the scenes. It will also explain why Mumbai has been one of the strongest teams in Indian domestic cricket.
Ajinkya Naik was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times Digital, "We have requested permission from the BCCI, as we want to document the entire season. Whether it comes to be a web series or a documentary will be decided once we move ahead, but the idea is to give fans a unique look at what goes on behind the scenes with the Mumbai team throughout the season.”
Mumbai has won the Ranji Trophy a record 42 times. The documentary will try to show the hard work and discipline behind this success. MCA also wants young players to learn from the project. Amid this, Dasun Shanaka smashes fastest CPL century after coming to bat in 10th over.
Mumbai’s cricket culture set for big screen debut
The documentary will show how players prepare for matches, follow discipline, and handle the pressure of playing for Mumbai. The MCA wants the next generation to understand Mumbai’s rich cricket history and learn from the players and coaches.
Naik added, “This initiative will help youngsters understand what goes on behind the scenes, the preparation, discipline, hard work, and culture that have made Mumbai cricket so successful. It will give the next generation an opportunity to learn from Mumbai’s rich cricketing legacy.”
The plan is to start filming from the first day of the senior team’s Ranji Trophy preparations. The cameras could follow the team throughout the season and cover the journey until the final match.
The MCA President further noted, “We want to capture the journey from Day 1 of our senior team’s preparations for the Ranji Trophy right through to the final match of the season. Mumbai cricket has such a rich heritage, and why shouldn't it be showcased in front of the entire world? Let people see what goes into the making.”
