Mumbai Indians announced their replacement for the IPL 2025 playoffs as Will Jacks, Ryan Rickleton and Corbin Bosch will leave India to join their national side after Mumbai’s last league stage match.
Jacks is named in England’s squad for the white-ball series against the West Indies. Meanwhile, Rickleton and Bosch are in the South Africa’s Test squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final against Australia.
Mumbai Indians replacements
The five-time champion signed an English wicket-keeper batter in place of fellow English player Jacks. Bairstow will join Mumbai’s squad for INR 5.25 crore for just the playoffs.
Another English player, Richard Gleeson, will join Mumbai’s squad in place of Rickleton. Gleeson will join Mumbai’s camp for INR 1 crore.
Sri Lanka T20I skipper Charith Asalanka will be a replacement for Corbin Bosch at a reserve price of INR 75 lakhs.
Bairstow, Gleeson and Asalanka were unsold in the mega auction, but now will get an opportunity to play in the IPL 2025.
Aslanaka will be making his debut in the IPL, whereas Gleeson played last season with the Chennai Super Kings.
Bairstow played last season with the Punjab Kings but failed to perform in IPL 2024. Mumbai will be his third franchise after Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings.

IPL temporary replacement rules
IPL have announced the new rules for the temporary replacements as the replacement players will not be available for retention in the IPL 2026.
The temporary replacement term came after IPL was suspended, as many overseas players refused to rejoin their franchises. The replacements will be available for the rest of the tournament.
"This decision is subject to the condition that the Temporary Replacement players will not be eligible for retention in the next season." IPL’s statement.
Mumbai Indians' playoffs scenario
Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings have already qualified for the IPL 2025 playoffs. Now, there is only one spot remaining for the playoffs.
Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians are the only two teams that are still fighting for the last spot. Mumbai have 14 points in 12 matches and their last two matches are against Delhi and Punjab.
Delhi are in the fifth position in the points table and have 13 points in 12 matches. Delhi’s last two matches are also against Mumbai and Punjab.
If Mumbai win their last two matches, then the five-time champions will automatically qualify for the playoffs, but if they lose both games, Mumbai will be eliminated from the tournament.
