Rohit Sharma tops ICC ODI Rankings for the first time in his career

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has once again reminded the world why he’s called the “Hitman.” The veteran Indian opener produced a breathtaking performance in the recent three-match ODI series against Australia. He played a key role in India avoiding a whitewash in Australia.

The former Indian captain’s stunning performance in the second and third ODIs not only earned him both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards but also helped him achieve a rare achievement. Rohit amassed 202 in three innings at an amazing average of 101 and strike rate of 85.59.

Rohit Sharma deserves to be No. 1 in the world: Nasser Hussain

The achievement stunned many, including former England captain Nasser Hussain, who praised Rohit’s incredible journey and called it a long-overdue recognition for one of the game’s most complete white-ball batters. Hussain said Rohit “deserves to be No. 1 in the world.”

Nasser Hussain was quoted as saying by ICC: “I can’t believe it, to be honest. I heard he [Rohit Sharma] went to number one, and my first question was, "When has he been at number one before?" And someone said it’s the first time. I mean, he’s been around forever; he’s got three double hundreds in ODI cricket. There must have been some good white players, one-day players, in the last 15 years. Fabulous white-ball cricketer, fabulous player, and well done to him.”
