Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Eliminator of the ongoing IPL 2025. The GT vs MI match will be played on Friday (May 30) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh.
MI have finished the league stage at the fourth spot with 16 points from 14 games. The five-time champions did have the opportunity to seal a top-two spot. A win over Punjab Kings in their last league game would have propelled them into the top two.
However, the Hardik Pandya-led side suffered a crushing 7-wicket defeat in the game and finished the league stage in the fourth spot.
MI now has its task cut out against GT. They have not managed to do well against GT and will need something special to beat them.
MI has not won a game against GT since 2023 and has already lost twice against them in the ongoing season.
With Mumbai Indians looking to turn things around and improve their record against GT with a win in the Eliminator, we are taking a look at the Mumbai Indians Playing 11 vs Gujarat Titans.
Mumbai Indians Playing 11 vs Gujarat Titans- IPL 2025, Eliminator:
Openers: Rohit Sharma, Jonny Bairstow (wk)
With Ryan Rickelton leaving for national duty, the MI Playing 11 is set to have a new opening combination. Rickelton is likely to be replaced by Jonny Bairstow at the top of the order. Bairstow and Rohit Sharma are set to be the openers in the MI Playing 11 for the upcoming match.
The onus will be on them to give their team a strong start with the bat. Both the batsmen are more than capable of playing match-winning knocks and will be looking to make a big impact. Rohit has struggled with consistency this season but has got some much-needed runs under his belt in recent games.
Bairstow will be playing an IPL game for the first time this season but is vastly experienced and will be looking to hit the ground running.
Middle-order: Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Charith Asalanka/Bevon Jacobs, Hardik Pandya (C), Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner
Mumbai Indians' middle-order is also set to have a couple of changes because of the departure of Will Jacks and Corbin Bosch. Suryakumar Yadav is set to bat at number three once again.
The India T20I captain is the third-highest run-scorer this season and he will be eyeing another good knock with the bat.
He scored a half-century in the last outing and will look to make the most of his form. Tilak Varma has struggled for runs in recent games but is likely to retain his spot in the Mumbai Indians Playing 11. The southpaw will be looking to deliver with the bat in the do-or-die clash.
MI have signed up Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka as a replacement and he could be one of the names in the middle-order. Asalanka is also a handy spinner and can contribute to the ball as well. Bevon Jacobs is also a handy option for the middle-order.
Captain Hardik Pandya will look to lead the team from the front. The allrounder has a knack for delivering in pressure situations and will be desperate to do well in the Eliminator as he eyes his first IPL title as the MI captain.
Naman Dhir has been a consistent performer with the bat for MI this season. He has played several impactful cameos with the bat and will look to impress again. New Zealand star Mitchell Santner is also likely to be a part of the Mumbai Indians' Playing 11 for the Eliminator.
Santner picked up 2 wickets in the last game against Punjab and will look to impress again. He is also a handy batsman and can hit the ball a long way.
Bowlers: Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah
The Mumbai Indians' Playing 11 is likely to have three frontline pacers. Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, and Jasprit Bumrah are set to be the three pacers.
All three of them are capable of delivering match-winning spells and will look to impress in the Eliminator. Karn Sharma can be used as an Impact Player as well.
