Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder Mitchell Santner has shared a crucial update on teammate Karn Sharma ahead of the IPL 2025 clash against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Santner revealed that Karn Sharma, who sustained an injury to his hand, is unlikely to be available for the El Clasico of the IPL.
Mumbai will take on Chennai Super Kings in the high-stakes IPL 2025 clash at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 20. After winning two back-to-back games, the Hardik Pandya-led team will be hoping to continue their momentum against the Super Kings, who are at the bottom of the table.
Mumbai Indians Spinner Karn Sharma Ruled Out of El Clasico of the IPL?
Speaking at a presser on Saturday, Mitchell Santner revealed that Karn Sharma had sustained a hand injury requiring a few stitches. Santner was uncertain about his availability for the upcoming match on Sunday, adding that the cut looked quite serious.
“He has got a couple of stitches in his hand. He’s here today, I’m not sure if he’s bowling or if he’s available for tomorrow, but it looked like a nasty little cut, and it’s a shame," Santer said in the pre-match press conference.
Karn Sharma Named Player of the Match in His First Outing in IPL 2025
Karn Sharma played a key role in the Mumbai Indians' win over Delhi Capitals, taking three wickets and earning Player of the Match honors. However, the veteran leg spinner was unable to bowl in their next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad due to a hand injury sustained while fielding, which required treatment.
Despite Karn's absence, Mumbai Indians secured a comfortable victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday, April 17, at Wankhede Stadium. Will Jacks was the standout bowler, taking two wickets for just 14 runs in his 3-over spell. Chasing a target of 163, the home side reached it with four wickets to spare.
Noor Ahmad Is Going to Be a Challenge - Mitchell Santner
Mitchell Santner said that left-arm wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad is the biggest threat for the Mumbai Indians. The 33-year-old cricketer added that Ahmad can be unstoppable on slower wickets that offer assistance.
“I guess the mystery — he’s hard to pick at times — we’ve seen through this tournament, especially in Chennai, where there has been a little bit of assistance, he’s been outstanding,' he said.
"If it is going to be a slightly slower wicket like last game, we know he’s going to be a challenge. If they go to other spinners, they will be as well. You’ve got to be quite smart against him. If he gets on a roll, he’s pretty tough to stop. As we’ve seen, he has bowled extremely well," Santner added.
Noor Ahmad is the second-highest wicket-taker with 12 wickets from seven matches at an average of 14.15 and an economy rate of 7.12. He started the season by picking up a four-wicket haul against the Mumbai Indians. Noor removed Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Robin Minz, and Naman Dhir.
