Namibia And South Africa To Play Historic One-Off T20I In October 2025

In a landmark moment, Namibia and South Africa will be playing an international game against each other for the very first time later this year.
It will be a one-off T20I match and will take place on October 11. The match will also mark the official opening of Namibia's new ground in Windhoek. The venue will be Cricket Namibia's first official stadium. Previously, the Namibian cricket team played its international games at the Wanderers and also in Windhoek, which is a club ground.
The new ground that will be opened later this year will be one of the venues during the 2026 Under-19 Men's World Cup and the 2027 Men's ODI World Cup. Namibia and Zimbabwe will be co-hosting the Under-19 World Cup, while the ODI World Cup will be co-hosted by both of them as well as South Africa.
According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, the ground in Windhoek has been under construction since 2021 and has a capacity of 7000.
"This truly is a memorable occasion," Johann Muller, Cricket Namibia CEO, said in a statement. "The new ground has been a dream for the last four years and has finally materialised. A match against our neighbours, and one of the top cricketing countries in the world, is the perfect way to open this world-class facility."
First-ever international match between Namibia and South Africa:
Even though Namibia and South Africa are neighbours, they are yet to play an international match against each other. The historic match later this year is an indication of the growing relationship between the two cricketing boards. The Proteas will also be traveling to Zimbabwe for the first time in 11 years later this year to play two Tests and a T20I tri-series.
"We are honoured to be part of this historic occasion. Namibia are a competitive side, and this fixture reflects the growing strength of cricket on the continent. As a fellow African cricketing nation and the host of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027, we are proud to support the official opening of this new cricket ground, which will be one of the host venues of the tournament," said Cricket South Africa CEO Pholesti Moseki.
While Namibia are yet to play an international game against South Africa, they have been featuring regularly in the ICC global events in recent years. They have played in the last three T20 World Cups and also registered a famous win over Sri Lanka in 2022. They will be eyeing a historic win over South Africa in the historic contest later this year.
