The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a show-cause notice to fast bowler Naseem Shah for allegedly violating his central contract and media regulations. Notably, the PCB initiated these disciplinary proceedings after Naseem posted a controversial tweet criticizing Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

PSL 2026 began with a match between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on March 26. The PCB had announced that all PSL matches would be held without spectators due to fuel conservation measures. However, Maryam Nawaz arrived with a massive security convoy.

Why Is She Treated Like The Queen At Lord’s? - Naseem Shah Criticizes Maryam Nawaz

Maryam Nawaz attended the Pakistan Super League opener as a special guest of honor and interacted with several players from Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen. Naseem Shah quote-tweeted a video posted by the PCB showing chairman Mohsin Naqvi formally greeting Maryam Nawaz.

The Rawalpindi Pindiz fast bowler used his official X account to question the special reception given to the Punjab Chief Minister. Naseem expressed his frustration regarding the preferential, highly secure treatment given to Maryam at the Gaddafi Stadium despite the strict restrictions for fans.

“Why is she treated like the Queen at Lord’s?”

Minutes after posting the controversial remark, Naseem quickly deleted the tweet. Naseem Shah then published a follow-up statement claiming his account was temporarily hacked. He clarified that the tweet was entirely unintentional and that he recovered his social media account.

Pakistan Cricket Board Issues Show-Cause Notice To Naseem Shah

The hacking explanation did not satisfy the PCB management. A day after the incident, the PCB released an official statement confirming that Naseem Shah had breached his contractual obligations. The PCB stated that formal disciplinary action would be finalized after receiving his response.

The Pakistan Cricket Board emphasized its strict stance on maintaining discipline and indicated that the management expects Naseem to explain his actions regarding the deleted post within a specific timeframe.

“Naseem Shah is required to provide a response within the stipulated time. The PCB remains committed to upholding professional standards, contractual obligations, and the integrity of the game.”

While the PCB did not specify the exact rule broken, reports suggest Naseem violated Clause 2.23 of the official code of conduct. This clause explicitly prohibits any public criticism or inappropriate comments regarding the PCB, its officials, its sponsors, or relevant political stakeholders.

PCB Enforces Strict Policy On Political Expression Among Players

The PCB has recently adopted a strict policy against any political expression among its contracted cricketers. Last year, the PCB fined all-rounder Aamer Jamal over one million PKR for displaying a slogan supporting former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan during a Test series against England.

Aamer Jamal wore a floppy hat displaying the number ‘804’, which represents the prisoner number of the currently incarcerated Imran Khan. The PCB used this precedent to enforce strict compliance with its media policies, ensuring players keep their political views separate from their careers.

Naseem Shah is currently scheduled to play his first Pakistan Super League 2026 match for Rawalpindi PindiZ against Peshawar Zalmi on Saturday, March 28. It remains uncertain whether the PCB will impose immediate sanctions or allow him to play while the disciplinary process continues.
