Eoin Morgan, the English captain, praised Jos Buttler, saying that he is in a world of his own at the present and there is no better player in the limited-overs style of the league than him.
Buttler, the English wicketkeeper-batsman, was on his own in the first ODI of the three-match series against the Netherlands on Friday. In the 50-over style of the game, the 31-year-old smashed the second-fastest 150 runs and stayed unbeaten on 162 runs just from 70 balls. He hit 7 fours and 14 sixes during his time at the crease.
Nothing went well for the hosts after Dutch captain Pieter Seelaar won the toss and encouraged the English team to bat first. The World Cup winners initially scored 498 runs for the cost of four wickets before dismissing the home team for 266 runs to win by 232 runs.
Three hitters — Phil Salt, Dawid Malan, and Jos Buttler – each scored century in the match to help the visitors reach a mammoth total. By scoring the highest total in a 50-over game, the English side set a new world record.
‘Jos Buttler is the best white-ball cricketer in the world’: Eoin Morgan
Eoin Morgan, England’s captain, lavished praise on the 31-year-old, saying that he is in a league of his own at the present and that there is no better player in the limited-overs style of the game than him.
“The last several days have been fantastic. It is great to be a part of this group. It is incredible to post a big score like that and then have Jos come in at the end and be in his universe – it is probably why he is the best white-ball player in the world.”
“It is fantastic when the lads come in and play with the ethos that we have been using for the past six years. We have not played much 50-over cricket recently, and it is crucial that we do so before the World Cup in India next year “Morgan remarked.
The right-handed batsman, who was in fine form with the bat during the Indian Premier League’s 2022 season, resumed where he left off in India, scoring the second-fastest 150 by any cricketer to go undefeated on 162 from 70 balls.
