NED vs SL: Watch: Charith Asalanka Takes Blinder To Dismiss Logan Van Beek

Logan van Beek came in as a rescuer of a sinking ship for the Netherlands against Sri Lanka in the ICC World Cup 2023. The 19th game of the tournament is underway at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow and so far it has been a staggering competition between bat and ball. 

However, there was also a special fielding effort that came in from the Sri Lanka camp. Charith Asalanka was the man behind the stupendous show as he pulled the best catch to send Logan Van Beek packing at the crucial juncture of the game in Lucknow. 

Kasun Rajitha bowled a slower ball that was floated up on the off-stump. Logan Van Beek muscled it in the air towards the boundary but didn’t find the gap. Charith Asalanka wasn’t in a position to take a comfortable catch as the ball was flying towards his right. 

Charith Asalanka however put a brilliant five across and grabbed the ball with the hands. It was a blinder as by the early looks of it, it seemed that he wouldn’t catch it. But his brilliance on the field saved crucial runs for his team in the end.

Logan Van Beek was looking threatening in the end as bailed Netherlands out of trouble. He ended with the knock of 59 runs off 75 balls and made sure that his side ended up getting a competitive total on the board.

The Netherlands won the toss and opted to bat first. However, they had a horrendous outing with the bat upfront as Sri Lanka bowlers were all over them. Colin Ackerman (29) and Scott Edwards (16) tried to hold the fort but couldn’t get going as they were left tottering at 91/6. 

It was then that Logan Van Beek (59) and Sybrand Engelbrecht (70) joined hands together and steadied the ship. They batted magnificently well and added 130 runs partnership for the 7th wicket to bring Netherlands back in the game. Their effort powered the Dutch side to a total of 262 runs. For Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madushanka and Kasun Rajitha were the pick of the bowlers with four wickets each to their name.
