Janakpur Royals, on Friday (January 6), registered a comprehensive win over table-toppers Lumbini All-Stars in the ongoing Nepal T20 League 2022/23. Despite the win, the Royals finished the league stage in the second spot behind the All-Stars.

Both teams will lock horns soon in the first qualifier, scheduled to be played on Sunday (January 8). Talking about the game, the All-Stars suffered a 23-run defeat in their last league clash. Chasing 160, they finished on 136 for 7 in the game which was reduced to 17-over per side.

The All-Stars started their chase in a good manner and were comfortably placed at 51 for 1 in the 5th over before Lahiru Milantha’s dismissal derailed their innings. From thereon, they kept losing wickets at crucial junctures. Consequently, the chase did not get the impetus in the remainder of the match.

In the end, the Royals registered a comfortable win. For the Royals, Trevon Griffith was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 for 30.

Janakpur Royals innings:

Earlier in the game, skipper Trevon Griffith played a whirlwind knock to guide his team to a competitive total of 159 for 6. The left-handed batsman came down the batting order at number 8 and justified the move by smashing an unbeaten 47.

His knock came off just 11 balls and was studded 3 fours and 5 sixes. It was his knock that helped the Royals put up a good total after a poor start with the bat. In the 16th over, they were reeling at 111 for 6 and the 150-run mark was looking like a dream.

However, Griffith’s quickfire knock helped the Royals overcome the poor start. Other batsmen like Sharafuddin Ashraf (34),  Khadak Bohora (22), and Samiullah Shinwari (20) got starts but could not capitalize on them. For the All-Stars, Sagar Dhakal and Kushan Bhurtel picked up 2 wickets apiece.
