Janakpur Royals, on Saturday (December 31), beat Biratnagar Super Kings by 49 runs in the ongoing Nepal T20 League 2022. The win has further helped the Royals consolidate their position at the second spot in the points table.
The Royals now have 4 wins from 5 games. The Super Kings, on the other hand, suffered defeat after winning their previous two games. They now have 2 wins and 3 losses from 5 games.
Biratnagar Super Kings’ chase:
Chasing a mammoth total of 190, Biratnagar Super Kings did not look in control at all as they suffered their third defeat in the ongoing Nepal T20 League. The Super Kings eventually finished their innings on 140 for 7.
Openers Andre McCarthy and Gauranshu Sharma did not give the Royals an early breakthrough but they could not play at a good pace. They added 44 runs but in 51 balls for the first wicket.
By the time the 10th over ended, the Super Kings had managed to score only 49 for 2. In the final 10 overs, they needed to score 141 runs and they could not even come close to the total.
Hussain Talat played a fine knock of 42 off just 20 balls but lack of support from the other end meant his innings did not cause much trouble for the Royals.
Janakpur Royals’ innings:
Asked to bat first, Janakpur Royals rode on Samiullah Shinwari’s quickfire unbeaten half-century to post a big total of 189 for 5. The Royals were off to a poor start as both of their openers Trevon Griffith and Pawan Sarraf departed cheaply when the score was just 24 runs.
Chadwick Walton (29) and Sundeep Jora (20) got starts but could not capitalize on them as the Royals lost wickets at crucial junctures. At one stage, they were reeling at 101 for 5 in the 14th over. Even a 150-run mark was looking like a dream at that moment.
