The New Zealand National Cricket Team has created history in the fourth T20I against the India National Cricket Team at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday, October 30. The Black Caps smashed the highest-ever T20I total against India, breaking the previous record held by England.

Indian captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first at Eden Park in Auckland, and then the Black Caps made the most of the opportunity to script the history in T20I cricket. Earlier, Arshdeep Singh creates world record after completing 150 T20I wickets.

New Zealand shatter England's record with mammoth 259/7 against India

The New Zealand National Cricket Team have smashed 259/7 in their 20 overs against the India National Cricket Team in the fourth T20I match in Auckland. With this massive total, New Zealand broke England’s record to register the highest-ever T20I total against India.

England had held the record after scoring 257/3 against India in Southampton in July 2026. But New Zealand have now surpassed that mammoth total with a stunning batting display.

New Zealand break own T20I record

Additionally, New Zealand has registered their highest-ever T20I total. Their previous best was 254/5 against Scotland in the shorter format of the game. Earlier, Shreyas Iyer wins 19 tosses in 25 matches, sets record among Full Member captains.

New Zealand's highest T20I totals:

  • 259/7 vs India, Auckland – 2026
  • 254/5 vs Scotland, Edinburgh – 2022
  • 243/5 vs West Indies, Mount Maunganui – 2018
  • 243/6 vs Australia, Auckland – 2018

India create unwanted T20I record

The record-breaking innings has also added to India's unwanted bowling records. It’s the most by any team in a calendar year in T20 cricket when they have conceded 200+ runs 11 times in 2026. The previous record was nine times, jointly held by Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals in 2026.

India has had a tough year with the ball, as they have allowed opposition teams to cross the 200-run mark 11 times in T20I cricket in 2026. No other team has conceded 200-plus totals so many times in a single calendar year.

With a massive 150 runs scored by New Zealand during the middle overs (11-20) in Auckland, it was the second-highest number of runs conceded by India in the final 10 overs of a T20I innings.

India's unwanted record remains 151 runs conceded against South Africa in Guwahati in 2022. Third on the list is England after their win over India in Southampton by 146 runs in 2026.

Glenn Phillips equals his own T20I record against India

Meanwhile, Glenn Phillips produced a sensational batting performance against India in Auckland in 2026, smashing a brilliant century off just 46 balls. With this explosive knock, Phillips equalled his own record for the second-fastest T20I century by a New Zealand batter.

He had earlier reached the three-figure mark in 46 balls against the West Indies in Mount Maunganui in 2020. Phillips and Michael Bracewell, who smashed 65 runs off just 25 balls, produced a stunning batting partnership as they have added 115 runs off just 40 balls against India in Auckland.

The duo scored at an incredible run rate of 16.82 runs per over, which is now the highest-ever scoring rate in a 100-plus run partnership against India in T20I cricket. It was also the fourth-highest scoring rate in a 100-plus stand against a Full Member team.
