New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has lauded the Kane Williamson-led BlackCaps for winning the inaugural ICC World Test Championship final against India.
New Zealand ended their 21-year drought of having not won an ICC title in Southampton as they outclassed Team India in all departments of the game by eight wickets on the reserve day.
Once again it was the Kiwi seamers-led Kyle Jamieson that led to India’s demise as the unrelenting pace attack shot the Indians out for a mere 170, an overall lead of 138.
In reply, the BlackCaps looked in a spot of bother after having lost both their openers to Ashwin but the veteran duo of Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor ensured that there were no further hiccups as they led the Kiwis past the finishing line with eight wickets to spare.
In a statement, PM Jacinda Ardern lauded the ‘masterful performance’ by the BlackCaps under the ‘humble leadership’ of Kane Williamson.
”The Black Caps have made New Zealand proud. This was a masterful performance from a team at the top of their game and on top of the world. Kane Williamson and the team leadership have built a brilliant and humble squad who have become an inspiration to many New Zealanders,” Ardern said in a statement.
”Over a number of years now we have seen the development of a team and team culture that has taken New Zealand cricket to world beating heights,” Ardern further said.
