India and Saurashtra left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat hopes that his time comes in the Indian team again as he mentions entering into the prime of his cricketing career. He said that the next 3-4 years of his cricketing career will be his prime and he’ll continue to push his limits in order for an India recall.

The 29-year-old first played for India way back in 2010 when he debuted in a Test match against South Africa in the rainbow nation. He last played for India in 2018 but led the Saurashtra team to the Ranji Trophy title in 2020 with a record 67 wickets to his name.

I Genuinely Believe That I Am In A Phase Of My Career Where In The Next Three, Four Years I Will Be At My Prime: Jaydev Unadkat

Unadkat was hoping for selection in the Indian team for the Australia tour, home series against England, and the upcoming England tour, but was left disappointed by the snub. Not only the main team, but he also doesn’t even feature in the stand-by players for the UK tour.

“I will be biased if I talk about my selection (non selection in this case). I genuinely believe that I am in a phase of my career where in the next three, four years I will be at my prime. I’ve been taking those wickets as well, it actually proves the fact that I am in a good space and I’m finding ways to get people out on different tracks in different conditions. And because of that, I do believe that my time will come.

The selection again is a tricky thing and normally you would have performance of India A tours to consider besides domestic cricket but that hasn’t happened in pandemic,” Unadkat told PTI.

Unadkat’s took a hunk of those 67 wickets in the 2019-2020 Ranji Trophy on the flat Rajkot track, both with the new and old ball.

All I Can Do Now Is, Prepare For The Next Season: Jaydev Unadkat

Now a ray of hope is the India white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in July, which will feature the players who missed the boat on the UK tour and young guns who have done pretty well for India in the white-ball scenario especially.

“I know the life of a fast bowler is quite limited, but I still have that much time and all I can do now is, prepare for the next season, or whatever is coming up, even if anything comes up before the next season, I will be more than ready to take it. I just feel more motivated than ever to keep doing what I am doing to keep taking wickets, keep pushing my own limits and pushing those standards higher and higher,” he added.

In the now suspended IPL 2021, Jaydev Unadkat picked 4 wickets in as many games including a three-wicket haul against Delhi Capitals.
