Nitish Rana found himself in trouble for losing his temper during the high-voltage IPL 2025 clash between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday night (April 11) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Nitish Rana, who was not part of Delhi Capitals’ Playing XI but was among the Impact Substitutes, has been penalized for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the tense moment in Chennai.

Tristan Stubbs denied glove change, Nitish Rana left furious

Actually, the Delhi lad got involved in a heated moment with the fourth umpire near the boundary line at the MA Chidambaram Stadium after Tristan Stubbs was not allowed to change his wet gloves in the 19th over of DC’s chase against CSK on Saturday.

Stubbs had asked for a glove change because his gloves were completely wet, making it hard to play his shots. Even Karun Nair was ready with a fresh pair, but the umpires denied the request, as it could delay the game. The decision shocked the DC camp.

Rana quickly approached the umpire, trying to explain that playing with wet gloves was not just uncomfortable but risky as well. Sadly, Stubbs was forced to continue, and he ended up losing his wicket in the next delivery, and Delhi Capitals lost the match 23 runs to Chennai Super Kings.

Nitish Rana slapped with a fine after a heated argument with the umpire

During the heated argument at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Rana ended up using abusive language in frustration with the fourth umpire. As a result, the DC batter has been fined 25% of his match fee and also given one demerit point for losing his cool at the match official.

His mistake falls under a Level 1 offense in the IPL rules, which deals with on-field behavior and discipline. As per IPL rules, any such language that can be heard by others, including through stump microphones or by spectators, is considered a violation.

Rana accepted his mistake and agreed to the punishment given by the match referee, so there will be no further hearing in this matter. The IPL said in an official media release: “Nitish Rana, batter, Delhi Capitals, has been fined 25% of his match fee and has also accumulated 1 demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players.”

The release further reads: “Rana was found to have breached article 2.3 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to 'use of an audible obscenity during a match.' The incident occurred in the 19th over when Rana was involved in a prolonged argument with the fourth umpire. Rana admitted to the offense and accepted the match referee's sanction.”

Delhi Capitals in trouble mode in IPL 2026

Delhi Capitals are slowly slipping into trouble as they have now lost two matches back-to-back while chasing. Previously, DC suffered one-run defeat against Gujarat Titans in Delhi, and now they were bowled out for 189, falling short by 23 runs against CSK in Chennai.

However, DC is still holding the fourth spot on the points table, and the good part is their net run rate is still positive. But now, they will have to make a strong comeback in their next IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 18 to stop this losing streak.
