Kolkata Knight Riders opener Nitish Rana has opened up on the incident involving his visit to Virat Kohli’s house in 2015 during his debut IPL season. Nitish Rana has come into the spotlight at present after his maiden call-up to India’s senior team for the limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka. The southpaw revealed being surprised by how the Indian skipper instantly recognized him.

Nitish Rana, part of the Mumbai Indians, unfortunately, could not play in any game in 2015 and enjoyed a breakthrough tournament two years later. The left-handed batsman mustered 333 runs in a winning campaign for the Mumbai Indians at 30.27 in 13 matches, keeping a strike rate of 126.14. Nevertheless, Rana needs to be more consistent.

Nitish Rana reminisced going to Virat Kohli’s house and while sharing things in between, the 32-year old asked if he fielded on point against him. The 27-year old wondered how could Kohli have recollected it when there is so much to know and remember.

“I had gone to meet bhaiya at his house, sat there, and talked to him. It was my first season in the IPL and as soon as I started sharing things, he stopped me in between and said: ‘You were fielding at Point against me.’ And I thought to myself, ‘How could he know this?’. I mean, there’s so much to know and remember and he still knows that Nitish Rana is fielding at Point,” Nitish told Indiatv Cricket.

I was very impressed with this at first and then I talked a lot to him about my game: Nitish Rana

Nitish Rana understood that Virat Kohli was entirely aware of his surroundings and left impressed by that and talked about his game. The Delhi-born cricketer revealed that Kohli cleared the doubts he had and has helped him in quite a few situations. Rana further vowed to showcase his talent for the Indian side by learning from the skipper and the other senior players.

“I understood a bit that he was very aware of his surroundings and his game so as to know about a fielder and where he was standing. I was very impressed with this at first and then I talked a lot to him about my game. I had a 4, 5-year-old doubt which I cleared with him and then applied in my batting. It has helped me in quite a few situations. I will try to cement my place here to get an opportunity to learn more from Virat bhaiya and other senior players,” he added.
