Riyan Parag has been in stunning form in the ongoing edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. It would not be very wrong to say that he has singlehandedly taken his team Assam into the quarterfinals of the ongoing tournament.
On Tuesday (October 31), he scored his seventh consecutive fifty in the competition to help Assam beat Bengal. Chasing a modest total of 139, Assam crossed the finishing line with eight wickets and 13 balls to spare. Riyan Parag starred with the bat, scoring 50 off 31 balls. He also made an impact with the ball and finished with figures of 2 for 23.
It was his seventh half-century in a row. Before the fifty against Bengal, the Assam star had achieved the milestone against Kerala, Himachal, Chandigarh, Sikkim, Services, and Bihar. Previously, he broke the record for most consecutive fifties in T20s. He has also picked up 11 wickets in the tournament so far.
Riyan Parag’s celebration:
Riyan Parag is known for his unique celebrations on the cricket field. And he was at it again after completing his fifty against Bengal. The celebration, however, has raised a number of eyebrows with many believing that it was disrespectful to the opposition players.
After reaching the milestone, Riyan Parag came up with an interesting gesture. Many fans interpreted it as if the batter was indicating that no Bengal player was at his level. One user also stated that the celebration was in response to a commentator who allegedly labeled former Assam players as second-class citizens as compared to former Bengal players.

Context is important! ?
A known domestic commentator mentioned former Assam players as second class citizens when comparing to former Bengal players. That's what he is responding to. Well done, Riyan Parag! ?? https://t.co/5TA78atp0V

Speaking after the game, the Assam batter said: “I’ve become a lot calmer and more mature. Cutting off the outside noise that’s affected me the last two years. My pep talk before the game was to go out there and enjoy yourselves. It’s a young bunch of boys, it’s fun. Now we’ll dance and celebrate.”
Riyan Parag is fast establishing himself as one of the best batters in the domestic circuit and it would not be surprising if he earns his maiden India call-up soon.
