Mumbai Emirates skipper Nicholas Pooran said the International League T20 (ILT20) offers valuable experience in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024. Nicholas Pooran emphasized the similarity between pitches in the UAE and the Caribbean Islands.

The upcoming second edition of the ILT20 is poised to kick off with a match between the defending champions, Gulf Giants, and Sharjah Warriors on January 19. The tournament will be held across three prestigious venues, namely Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi.

Wickets In The Caribbean Are The Same – Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran emphasized that the ILT20 experience will benefit players gearing up for the upcoming World Cup. He noted the similarity between pitches in the UAE and the Caribbean, highlighting their tendency to slow down as the tournament progresses.

“Pitches in the UAE tend to get slower as the tournament progresses. Wickets in the Caribbean are the same. So yes, definitely it will help the players here who will be playing in the upcoming World Cup,” Pooran said.

The upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in the United States of America (USA) and the West Indies. The 20 participating teams are grouped into four sets of five each. The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super 8s round.

The West Indies missed out on the 2023 ODI World Cup and failed to progress to the Super 12s in the 2022 T20 World Cup. They secured qualification for the upcoming T20 World Cup as co-hosts. The team won the tournament twice in the 2012 and 2016 seasons.

We Need To Find The Right Combination – Sunil Narine

Abu Dhabi Knight Riders captain Sunil Narine expressed unwavering determination for a stronger performance in the upcoming season. Narine emphasized the importance of finding the right team combination and executing strategic plans effectively.

“We need to find the right combination and then execute our plans properly. We will look to make the home ground our fortress since we are playing a lot of games there. It’s a new season, and I am sure it will be better this time around,” said Narine.

Abu Dhabi Knight Riders finished at the bottom of the table in the inaugural edition. The Knight Riders managed to secure just one win out of 10 games, with one match ending in no result. They will kick off their second season against the runner-up Desert Vipers.

Need To Formulate Our Plans And Asses Their Effectiveness – Sunil Narine

When asked about the prospect of taking up the opener’s role in the upcoming season, the West Indian expressed that it would depend on the team’s needs, emphasizing the importance of formulating effective plans and adapting as necessary.

“Only time will tell. We need to formulate our plans and assess their effectiveness. If the team requires me to open, I will certainly do so this time,” Sunil Narine said.
