Harsha Bhogle has defended Jasprit Bumrah's honour amid intense trolling and criticism faced by India's best paceman of the modern generation following his unsatisfactory show in England.

Indian pacer Bumrah's continuous trolling and criticism have fueled the anger of some famous personalities associated with the game of cricket. Jasprit Bumrah has been India's standout performer in Test cricket, at times winning games single-handedly.

However, just one bad series in terms of effectiveness, and Bumrah has to face this much criticism after being the very best bowler for India in the last few Test series, the last WTC cycle, and also the ICC tournaments he featured in. He was also the player of the tournament in India's triumph at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2024.

Harsha Bhogle responds to ICT fans trolling Jasprit Bumrah

Among many popular personalities who have reverted to Bumrah's continuous trolling is Indian commentator and renowned sports analyst Harsha Bhogle. Bhogle, who is never afraid of voicing his opinions, has openly slammed the Indian fans who are criticizing Bumrah for his performance in the England series.

The India vs England Test series recently concluded with Jasprit Bumrah featuring in only 3 of the 5 games in the series. The veteran pacer missed out on a couple of games due to his workload management strategies. He missed both the Tests, which India won under tough situations.

Amid criticism for the ace pacer, Harsha has come forward to keep his back, saying, "Really?? Trolling Bumrah? Hope you aren't among those, but if you are, fair to say you have no idea of what you have to endure to become a Bumrah."

"And you have no appreciation for one of India's greatest matchwinners who, as it turns out, bowls more overs than almost any other bowler," he wrote on his X handle.

Jasprit Bumrah stats in BGT 2024/25 compared to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025

For many who have criticized Bumrah, suggesting his performance has taken a major dip in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy compared to his effectiveness during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last season.

Bumrah was India's lead bowler in the Australia series, as he picked 32 wickets in the 9 innings he bowled in. Jasprit picked 3 5-wicket hauls and two 4-wicket hauls to break the back of the Australian batters.

Bumrah's tight spells could be assumed from his low economy of 2.76 despite having bowled 150+ overs in the series. His average was astonishing with 13.06 and a strike rate of just 28.37, which made it remarkable.

Bumrah's underwhelming series in the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy comprised 14 wickets in 5 innings. His bowling average saw a rise to 26.0, the third best in the series, and an economy of 3.04, the second best in the series.

Bumrah picked 2 5-wicket hauls, but his strike rate saw a major rise to 51.28, which is not a good sign by the veteran's standards.

Will Jasprit Bumrah continue as an all-format cricketer for India?

Jasprit Bumrah's injuries have been a major concern for the veteran pacer as well as the team management, since they have to limit his usage, citing that his excessive workload can cause further damage to his body.

Bumrah has played in all formats for India and was unstoppable in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024; however, he was not a part of the Champions Trophy due to injury. These frequent injuries and missing out on crucial matches and tournaments have raised a serious doubt about whether Bumrah should continue as an all-format resource for India.

Glenn McGrath backed Bumrah's ability and stated that the veteran should be part of all formats, as limiting him to any one or two formats would be unfair to his greatness. As of now, BCCI and the Indian management's plans with Bumrah remain unclear, with some clarity expected before the Asia Cup 2025.
