Abhishek's father narrates, "the trade was supposed to happen from Delhi to Hyderabad. Shikhar Dhawan was there in Hyderabad. The Delhi people said they wanted Shekar Daman, whatever they wanted. In return, we asked for a player. VVS Laxman said that if you want to trade a player, take one player."

"So they said, ‘That boy Abhishek Sharma?’ You wouldn’t know, but Rahul David Ji told me that in the future he will prove himself, you can’t even imagine. Many thanks to Rahul David Ji for mentioning this beforehand."

Abhishek Sharma's Father Has Played a Huge Role in His son's Career

Abhishek Sharma’s cricketing journey has been shaped significantly by his father’s guidance from the very beginning. He played for India at the Under-19 level and later represented India A before stepping onto the international stage.

The batter made his T20I debut in 2024 against Zimbabwe at Harare, but he was dismissed for a duck in his very first innings. However, captain Suryakumar Yadav backed the youngster, giving him opportunities to prove himself.

Abhishek has grown into one of India’s brightest T20I prospects. He has scored 849 runs in 24 matches at an average of 36.91 and an explosive strike rate of 196.07, including two centuries and five fifties.

Abhishek is set to return in Indian colours during the Australia tour later this month. While he may not find a place in the ODI squad, he is expected to continue opening the innings in the T20I format.

Abhishek Sharma's Record in the Indian Premier League

Abhishek began his IPL career with Delhi Capitals in 2018. He had limited chances with the Delhi team, featuring in just three matches and scoring 63 runs. However, he switched to Sunrisers Hyderabad the next year, a move that eventually opened the door for his growth.

Abhishek played only 19 matches during his first three seasons with SRH, but the franchise kept backing him. He paid back their trust in 2022 by emerging as one of their key performers, scoring 426 runs in 14 games at an average of 30.43 and a strike rate of 133.13.

In the IPL, the left-handed batter has played 77 matches and scored 1,816 runs at an average of 27.10 with a strike rate of 163.01. He has smashed nine half-centuries and a century in the cash-rich league.
