Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid is reportedly set to join the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise after his stint as head coach with the Indian cricket team. The Kolkata Knight Riders have approached Rahul Dravid for the mentor role in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Rahul Dravid's tenure with the Indian team concluded after the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA. The former Indian batter ended his stint as head coach on a winning note. Dravid secured the World Cup trophy after narrowly missing it during the ODI World Cup 2023 on home soil.

Rahul Dravid Approached By KKR - Report

According to the latest news reports, the Kolkata Knight Riders are in talks with Rahul Dravid for the mentor role for next year's tournament. Dravid might replace Gautam Gambhir as the mentor for Knight Riders if the news proves correct.

Rahul Dravid began his coaching career with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2024. The Jaipur-based franchise guided the Royals to a commendable third-place finish in the IPL 2015 season. He later coached the India U-19 and India A teams before being appointed as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

Dravid joined as head coach of India after the 2021 T20 World Cup. The 51-year-old guided the Indian team to finals in ICC events across formats. The team lost to Australia in the finals of the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup 2023. However, he led the team to victory in the recent T20 World Cup.

I Will Be Unemployeed - Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid responded humorously about his future after India's T20 World Cup victory. Dravid quipped that he would be unemployed next week and asked if there were any job offers.

"I will be. Next week, life will be the same for me. I will be unemployed, that will be the only difference (laughs). I am unemployed next week. Any offers? (smiles)," Dravid replied.

Gautam Gambhir To Replace Rahul Dravid As Head Coach

The BCCI is close to announcing Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the senior men's team. However, the official declaration is delayed due to ongoing salary negotiations, as reported by The Indian Express. Gambhir emerged as the top candidate after Rahul Dravid declined to continue after the T20 World Cup.

The Cricket Advisory Committee interviewed Gambhir and WV Raman for the head coach position. Gambhir recently filmed a farewell video at Eden Gardens, indicating the end of his second stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders. He helped the Knight Riders secure a championship after ten years in the IPL 2024.
