IND vs AFG T20I series will begin in less than two weeks. However, there is still uncertainty over who will lead the side in the series. Rohit Sharma is the official T20I skipper of India but he has not played any T20I match since the start of 2023.

Vice-captain Hardik Pandya is injured and will not be available for the IND vs AFG T20I series. Notably, Pandya has led the team in T20Is since the beginning of this year. Now, in his absence, selectors want Rohit Sharma to take the reins of the T20I side once again.

However, Rohit Sharma is yet to clear his decision on whether he will lead in the shortest format or not. Suryakumar Yadav, who led Team India in the previous two series against South Africa and Australia, has also sustained an injury. He is likely to miss action till February 2024.

KL Rahul is the first player who can lead the team in IND vs AFG T20I series if Rohit Sharma is unavailable. KL Rahul led the team in the recent ODI series against South Africa. The right-handed batsman also led the team to victory in the series 2-1.

Rahul was the vice-captain of Team India earlier before Hardik Pandya took his spot. However, Rahul has shown a wonderful form after his return to the national team post his surgery. Hence, he can lead the team against Afghanistan.

2. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah is another player on this list. Bumrah missed 11 months of action due to his back surgery. However, the right-arm pacer made a strong comeback to the national team in the T20I series against Ireland in August.
