Not Yashasvi Jaiswal! Rachin Ravindra honored with ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year 2023 award

Young New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra has been named as the ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year 2023. Ravindra had a brilliant stint in the ODI World Cup and was among the top run scorers of the tournament. Ravindra scored 578 runs from 10 games and slammed 2 hundreds and 3 half-centuries.

Rachin Ravindra went past South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee, Sri Lanka pacer Dilshan Madushanka, and India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal to receive the honor. Ravindra is also a decent bowler and also bowls a few overs with the ball.

Rachin Ravindra scored a total of 820 runs in ODIs at an average of 41. oo and picked up 18 wickets with the ball. Ravindra also scored 81 runs in T20I matches and picked up 5 wickets in the shortest international format.

It was a very special feeling for Rachin Ravindra and expressed the same while speaking to ICC. Ravindra stated that whenever you get recognized by ICC, it is a very special feeling. Ravindra further stated that playing cricket in different environments has always been a very special feeling.

Rachin Ravindra said, “It’s obviously a very special feeling. Whenever you get recognised by the ICC for something it is always special. Reflecting back it has been a pretty whirlwind last year and having the opportunity to play so much cricket in so many different environments has been very special.”

Rachin Ravindra slammed a century against England on his World Cup 2023 debut which was the most memorable performance of the year 2023. Ravindra came into bat number and joined Devon Conway in the middle and New Zealand were 10/1 at that stage.

Rachin Ravindra played a lot of classy shots during his innings and hit many boundaries to famous fast bowlers such as Chris Woakes and Mark Wood. Ravindra was unbeaten on 123* runs and helped New Zealand win the match by nine wickets while chasing down 283 runs. The performance was more memorable because he performed in the absence of captain Kane Williamson.

Rachin Ravindra also slammed centuries against Pakistan and Australia through which he proved his talent on the world stage. Ravindra was not able to do much in the Test and the T20I format, but his real potential came out in the ODIs, wherein he made his debut in March 2023.

Rachin Ravindra went on to continue his brilliant performance in the CWC 2023, wherein he played an innings of 51 runs and also hit a half-century against a lethal Indian pace attack.

Rachin Ravindra played an innings of 49 runs with the ball and also picked up two consecutive three wickets with the ball against England and Pakistan, which were on away tours.

Rachin Ravindra was also picked up by the Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings, wherein he will play under the leadership of veteran Indian captain MS Dhoni. MSD has groomed and evolved a lot of players, and Ravindra is going through that phase when Dhoni’s guidance can prove to be very essential for him.

Rachin Ravindra will want to express himself in the Test and the T20I format.
