Mohammad Rizwan has been summoned by Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) again in the ongoing investigation. It will be the second time if Rizwan makes his appearance in front of the investigators.
The experienced Pakistan keeper-batter Rizwan and an opener, Imam-ul-Haq, has been accused of being involved in illegal betting activities during the Pakistan cricket team's recent tour of England for a Test series. Pakistan lost every match of the three-match series, but more than that, the snubbing of seven cricketers, followed by the NCCIA investigation process, caught the headlines.
Mohammad Rizwan's phone remains under custody
While Imam-ul-Haq has been cooperative for most of the investigation process, Rizwan has reportedly been trying to maintain a distance from the investigation agency. However, he had to make contact with the agency as his phone is in their custody.
Since the conclusion of the Lord’s Test on August 30, Rizwan's personal mobile phone has not been with him. It was earlier reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) seized his phone; later, it came to light that the agency had taken his phone into its custody.
NCCIA issues fresh notice to Mohammad Rizwan
A day before, it was revealed that Mohammad Rizwan wrote a letter to the NCCIA urging them to return his phone without making any delay. In response to the cricketer's request, the agency has issued an open letter; according to it, the phone has been seized for a forensic examination, and for that reason, NCCIA is expecting cooperation from Mohammad Rizwan.
"The Agency is conducting an inquiry regarding the matter covered under relevant provisions of PECA, 2016. In this regard, your cooperation is requested for the forensic examination of the device seized from you," a portion of the open letter reads.
NCCIA provides Mohammad Rizwan a deadline
The letter also mentioned that he is required to present at the Police Station, National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, on 02-10-2026 time 3.00 PM to take the process further. If Rizwan refuses to appear at that time and date, then the investigators will assume that Rizwan has nothing to say in his defence regarding the ongoing matter.
"Therefore, you are directed to appear in person before the undersigned to extend your cooperation for the above purpose on 02-10-2026 time 3.00 PM at the Police Station, National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), Street No. 15, Wafaqi Colony, Canal Road, Lahore... In case of non-appearance,e it will be assumed that you have nothing to present or state in your defense," the one-page notice further reads.
In the first appearance, Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq were both reportedly faced with an interrogation session for more than a couple of hours. Later, it was Rizwan who went to the Lahore High Court, the Pakistan Cricket Board, and even made requests to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in search of a safeguard. However, none of his attempts proved fruitful for him. It will be interesting to see whether he will make an appearance for the second time before the NCCIA investigating officers.
