In a massive blow for the Bangladesh National Cricket Team, captain and star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan faced some injury issues during the 11th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Kane Williamson-led New Zealand National Cricket Team at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Friday, October 13.

The Bangla Tigers faced a crushing defeat against the BlackCaps by 8 wickets and they were outplayed in all the departments. Batting first, they posted 245/9 on the board with Mushfiqur Rahim (66), Mahmudullah (41), and Shakib Al Hasan (40) being the top three performers.

Defending the target, they dismissed Rachin Ravindra early on in the innings but were taken to the cleaners by Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, and Daryl Mitchell. The trio batted magnificently well and the Kiwis completed the run-chase in 42.5 overs to win their third consecutive game of the competition.

After the match, Shakib Al Hasan wasn’t seen on the ground and he didn’t take part in the post-match presentation ceremony. The reason behind Shakib’s absence was revealed by the star batsman Najmul Hossain Shanto.

Najmul Hossain Shanto came in to talk in place of Shakib Al Hasan after the match and revealed that the all-rounder had gone for scans on his left quad.

“[on Shakib] He is going for his scans. We will know after that,” Najmul Hossain Shanto told Ian Bishop.

While talking about the performance of his team, Shanto said that they batted poorly and they need to be a bit more responsible.

“We didn’t bat well. We didn’t start well. We batted poorly even in the last game in the first 10-15 overs. The wicket looks good. Some bounce with the new ball. We have to bat a little responsibly,” he said.

Shanto, however, was impressed with the performance of the Bangladesh pacers as he felt that they did well in the match despite the BlackCaps completing the run-chase easily.

“If we bat a little carefully in the first 10-15, then we can do well. Our pace bowlers did well. I think the biggest improvement has been our fast bowling department. We will have to bat well.”

Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan left the field after completing his entire quota of 10 overs. He bowled well for his side as he conceded 54 runs and bagged a crucial wicket of Devon Conway in the match.
