Former South African pacer Dale Steyn impressed with the Netherlands team’s dressing atmosphere during the ICC World Cup 2023. Dale Steyn mentioned that Dutch cricketers value everyone’s contributions, and they enjoy each other’s company like a big family.

The Netherlands made it to the World Cup 2023 after impressive performances in the Qualifiers. The Dutch team failed to qualify for the last two editions of the ODI World Cup. They suffered an 81-run loss in their tournament opener against Pakistan in Hyderabad.

There’s No Massive Superstars In Their Team – Dale Steyn

In a conversation with ESPNCricinfo, Dale Steyn said that the Netherlands team relies on collective effort, describing the team as a close-knit group with no major superstars.

“They’re just a bunch of good guys, all-around. They kind of all hang out together. There’s no massive superstars in their team, so they rely on a full-team effort to kind of win their games. I’d say that they do have these individuals that step up, like Logan van Beek and Bas de Leede, playing those kinds of performances,” Steyn told ESPNCricinfo.

“But they do rely on everyone to kind of come to the party. And I was with them now in Trivandrum. They invited me down for a coffee on the first floor, and everyone was there, enjoying each other’s company. They just feel like one big family. They don’t get these opportunities all the time, so they’re really enjoying each other’s company.”

They’re That Kind Of Team – Dale Steyn

The former South African pacer predicted that the Netherlands have the potential to cause upsets in the World Cup despite limited exposure to high-quality opposition.

“They’re just soaking it all up. I do feel for them at the start of the tournament because they haven’t played a lot of cricket against high-quality opposition. So, I suspect they’ll have an upset somewhere along the line in this World Cup because they’re that kind of team that can do that,” he concluded.

The Scott Edwards-led team is scheduled to take on the New Zealand team in their second World Cup match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday, October 9.
