Passing papers containing strategies to players on the field is a common sight in a number of sports, but not in cricket. Usually, any new strategy or information is passed to the players on the field by the players who carry drinks.

But something unusual was witnessed on the field on Monday (October 9) when the Netherlands locked horns against New Zealand in the 6th match of the ongoing 2023 ODI World Cup. The match is currently being played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

The Netherlands team was seen reading something from a piece of paper during the 27th over of the innings. After Will Young was dismissed by Paul van Meekeren, one of the substitute players came out on the field and handed the team a piece of paper containing strategies. Captain Scott Edwards and three other players were seen reading the paper before taking their positions.

New Zealand on top against Netherlands:

Talking about the game, New Zealand is looking set to post a big total against the Netherlands after being asked to bat first. At the time of writing this report, they were on 183 for 2 with in-form Rachin Ravindra batting on 49 and Daryl Mitchell unbeaten on 22. Ravindra scored a stunning unbeaten century in the previous game against England and would be looking to reach the triple-digit mark again.

Earlier in the game, Devon Conway and Will Young gave New Zealand a good start by adding 67 runs for the first wicket. Conway was the first to depart for 32 before Young departed for 70. New Zealand began their World Cup campaign last week with a thumping 9-wicket win over reigning champions England and will be looking to make the most of their form and momentum.

On the other hand, the Netherlands suffered an 81-run defeat against Pakistan in their World Cup opener. Chasing 287, they were all out for just 205. They will be looking to bounce back and stun New Zealand with a win in the ongoing game.
