NZ vs SA: Shaun Pollock Makes Shocking Remark On-Air, Says 'Maybe Trent Boult Is Looking For Sandpaper'

Former South African cricketer and commentator Shaun Pollock made a shocking remar during the 32nd match of the ICC World Cup 2023. Shaun Pollock said that New Zealand pacer Trent Boult might be looking for “sandpaper” to generate some swing.

The Tom Latham-led team is currently taking on the Temba Bavuma-led side at the MCA stadium in Pune on Wednesday, November 1. The New Zealand skipper won the toss and chose to bowl first, but they struggled to dominate against the Proteas during the match.

Trent Boult Hasn’t Got Much Swing – Shaun Pollock

While doing commentary in the New Zealand-South Africa match, Shaun Pollock made a surprising comment about Tom Latham’s decision to keep slips despite the lack of swing. Pollock suggested that Trent Boult might be looking for “sandpaper” to generate some swing.

“Latham is keeping those two slips in place. They are into the seventh over. Boult gets early swing but he hasn’t got much. Maybe he’s looking for sandpaper, just to clip off a little bit of edge,” Shaun Pollock said during the seventh over of South Africa’s innings.

It is worth mentioning that the left-arm pacer picked up the wicket of South Africa skipper Temba Bavum in the next over. Boult was rewarded for his exceptional tight-ball bowling. Bavuma played a loose drive, and Daryl Mitchell took a catch in the slips.

New Zealand has been without the services of fast bowler Lockie Ferguson due to an Achilles issue. Ferguson’s absence has had a significant impact on the team’s bowling performance. The Black Caps have faced difficulties taking wickets during the middle overs (11-40).
